Yes, thanks for sharing that River.  I got nailed on the nose last summer.   Routine inspection , all the ladies were calm, then out of the blue one launched out of the hive donkey first.  Square in the tip of the nose.   I swear I felt the venom spread through my sinuses in about two seconds.  by the time I walked to my van to look in the mirror I had tears and snot streaming down my whole face and onto my shirt.   It was definitely worse than the time I ate a bee along with some wonky comb.   I still dont' wear a veil, but some people are slow learners.
My advice: worth price charged :)

heheh.. Mrs River... you made the event even more memorable! Or more precisely, your bees did. Great story definitely worth the read, Thanks!

when the girls work me over so efficiently a couple nights back, my veil must have slipped up in the back, by the time I got back to a place of refuge lol there must have been eight to ten bees inside the veil, all dragging their entrails. when it first started you know you're going to be in for a rough time but you also know you can't stop. I am adopting a motto that I remembered recently " Embrace the suck “. And I did !  :O

Oh Good Gravy That's Funny!

Barry.. have you considered a bee shirt? I don't own a bee suit. But I do get pretty good milage out of the bee shirt when I need to get down and dirty with the bees.

apis, 'keith', thank you very much for the compliment. you too jen.  not sure that i am capable of writing a book of 'river's bee adventures' or 'life on the river' , but sure have experienced some very funny stuff with some of my quirky neighbors and the bees over the years. we all have.  scott has a 'gift' as well for telling a story, not sure that i have a gift, but sure do appreciate the compliment and i just write what i think, i guess.

pete....when i read this.....

i literally laughed outloud!  you are a serious type guy sometimes, i mean no offense, but this was just too funny!!!  yep it described my friend....his nose and sinuses were totally on fire, and tears and snot running down his face to his shirt.  we had to take a few 'tear and snot breaks', i swear, he could barely see, but i think his fear of going home to his wife was greater, so why he stayed and suffered it out......we were both in trouble..... :D
