Nuc arrival
« on: June 03, 2014, 04:41:15 pm »
I pick up my nuc and will return home about 9:15 on Thursday night. The seller stated that they are on a strong flow and to transfer ASAP. Can I get away with a night time transfer or should I let it sit until the next evening   This will be my first bees.

I would say let them settle before you move them into their hive.

Are these established 5 frames nucs,  or is this a "make a nuc"  from a full hive?

Place the nuc where the hive will be placed and in the early afternoon place the hive where the nuc was and then transfer the frames keeping them in the same order for now until some of the brood emerges. the bees will be calmer when they are doing there thing like foraging and storing nectar and feeding brood. Go in at night and the bees will hit you hard and thy to chase you away.

Thank you for the advice. The nuc is established and had been "building up". It's a couple months late as we have had a hard spring up here.   I have no desire to have my first bee experience at night getting pelted by bees :). I will let them sit out on the stand until Friday evening when I get home from work.

Good idea,  one more day in the nuc is not going to do them any harm.

Sooner rather than later. Like transfer then before supper rather than after, as the day gets later the bees stay at the hive and they tend to get agitated quicker.
