Inspection Trip with Neighbors.
« on: June 12, 2014, 11:29:01 am »
Went to check hives and put 4 nucs into deep hives with Tom & Candy who are neighbors and club members. All the hives are doing good and some doing great, had to put the 5th med. super on some. Candy is also a 5ft. 4in. Squirt and when i took the lid off several hives that are 2 deeps and 4 med. supers high she would jump up and down or stand on her toes to try to see inside the hives and i would ask Tom to lift her up so she could see inside the hive top,and of course i got that Squirt look.  We went to 5 outyards and done several inspections and i tried to answer many questions they ask. several times i was going to say this hive needs another super and Candy would be standing behind me with one in her hands 8) or be in the truck bed asking me if i want one with foundation or drawn comb? Tom wouldn't let me lift the full not fully capped supers off the hives to put supers on ??? I do both, top and bottom suppering. At one outyard in the woods that we had just worked, Candy had her bee suite off and was beating it on the ground?? i ask her if there was a bee in it, she said that she was knocking the Ticks off her suite :o that got me and Tom's attention. Tom had ticks all over his suite and even down in his boots and socks :o I found 3 crawling on my pant leg and my wife found two attached to me after i took a shower. They couldn't understand why i didn't have hundreds on me because we walked the same places? I told them i think it's because i take a Garlic pill every day, Candy said they are are going to start on Garlic as soon as they get home. ;D Other than the Ticks we had a good time. Jack

Question? i'm sure there are ticks in my pickup truck and was wondering if it would be safe to set a bug bomb off inside to get rid of them? Of course i would air it out before driving it, but was wondering about the residue that it left? Anyone know if it would be safe?. Jack

i have never tried that jack......hmmmm but i have used those big smoke bombs to throw in gophers holes and woodchuck dens......they never come back........... :D

not sure i'd want to throw a bug bomb in a truck, (how much is it worth?....  :D) you'd have to close the doors and windows, not sure you could ever really air it out, but hey you live in missouri and you guys have some funny ways of doing things....... :D

I'm thinking about taking a couple of my buddies fishing at the river (on the gravel bar) let one ride in the back seat where candy rode, and one in the passenger side where Tom rode ;D I figure that way i should only get a third of the ticks left in the truck, if any, and they'll think they got them walking to the river from the truck. They got some payback coming anyway. Jack

LOL  Good plan!!!
The small space inside a truck might be a bit too small Jack.. Id be afraid of the stuff gathering on all the surfaces and dripping... not sure how well a dash pad would handle that stuff....

Ticks don't like me very well so I come in and set in the little woman's chair most will crawl off. I always try to blame it on her dog but it never works.

"just sell the truck, problem solved".....................

ps jack don't mean to hijack your thread.....but i am not a tickologist and don't know of any means of getting rid of them out of your vehicle. they will probably die as long as you are not feeding them..... :D.....maybe park in full sun with windows closed?  how about smoking them out with a smoker?......hmmm.....or spray the heck out of it with avon skin so soft, or better yet, how about using some bee go?.... :D

The ticks i've had the last two weeks are so small you can hardly see them, you just feel an itch ???. Got one on the back of my right leg, the calf (the knee replacement leg last Dec.) This happened 12 days ago, I was getting ready for bed and my wife ask what was wrong with my leg,? you keep scratching it, well she found a small tick, took it out ,and put alcohol on it. Well in two days it got infected and my wife said your going to the doctor >:( the doctor said i should have seen him two days ago and put me on antibiotics for 10 days :o. My son (he works for the Hospital in Bolivar, Mo.) and his family came by last Sunday,he got a little huffy with me, and said you better make sure that med. is doing it's job and watch it, because that infection can move up my leg and feed on my new knee that is still healing, Then i would have something to worry about. :o. Well it's healing up, but i keep getting into more of the little devils  >:(. , i'm hoping all those stings i got on that cutout will help me out. ;DJack

ticks have porous skn and can't handle heat and drought.  So I'm pretty sure if you park your vehicle in full sun with the windows up, it will bake them.
My advice: worth price charged :)
