Nice Barry!  And, those are deep honey supers, yes!  Ton-o-Honey there sir!  It appears the metal on the cover is blue.  I like it!  Also, is the tarp to hide the hives from inquiring eyes or a flight pattern block of some sort?

Lol Blueblood, the backing is side of car port/ storage area. That blue is the plastic protective film I never removed. Jen, no requeening done, all is mellowing out a bit.

I just had my first privilege of lifting off a deep full of honey yesterday. WOW!! I think I pulled something. Not sure what, but man if there was anything that made me want to convert to all mediums, it was that!

I've heard old timers say, "There are two kinds of beekeepers.  Those that have bad backs and those that will." ;D

Jen, I have had substantial back pain ( 2 ruptured disc  80 % desiccated )for over a decade. I will be in pain to one degree or another no matter what I do, so I choose to do what I want. Being reserved will change nothing.

Barry Barry Barry... heavy siiigh, what's a healer to do with you  :-\  I sure don't want to see a fellow beek in a wheelchair simply over the weight of his hives. Unless of course you enjoy misery...

Have you tried bee venom therapy directly to your back?  :)

the problem I have with any kind of therapy, my issues are mechanical, not soft tissue. there's very little material between the vertebrae that keeps them from grinding on themselves.

I just had my first privilege of lifting off a deep full of honey yesterday. WOW!! I think I pulled something. Not sure what, but man if there was anything that made me want to convert to all mediums, it was that!

For our spring public presentation I made a deep super simulator so that people would know what they were getting into.  Here is an excerpt from my blog:

A super full of frames full of honey is heavy.  A 10-frame deep weighs 70 - 80 pounds.  Plus you have to pry it off the lower box and then lift it in an awkward position.

My idea was to build a 10-frame deep, but instead of honey-filled frames, I'd put concrete blocks, so that an accurate training aid would be presented.

I had an extra box, so me and dad cut up a 2x4 and attached the pieces to the bottom of the box.  I wanted it to be sturdy enough to hold the weight and not tear the box up.

Installing the 2 x 4s

Cutting the top and bottom

Adding the blocks

Cutting the shims to stabilize the blocks

The box ended up weighing 72 pounds.  I encouraged people to try to pick it up.  My thought was that it was better for someone to know what it was like before they bought a bunch of equipment.  I'd hate for someone to invest a lot of money just to find out that they couldn't lift the boxes when they were full of honey.

I did take that into consideration, and you certainly should have had some pain relief from that stinging episode for a few days.

Yes, I do understand the mechanic of vertibrae's and joints. Bee Venom Therapy does not correct structural damage, it simply eases pain.
