Nice frosting, I can't wait to get some like that. Alas, I don't even have supers on yet. I'm quickly starting to realise that I pushed the splitting a bit too far this year.

Lazy- we had a long cool spring, summer is just now starting. The only bloomers we have in late summer/fall is blackberries and Star Thistle which is coming into bloom now. It's going to be slim this year I think ~

There's a fellow out in California, Ray Marley I think, and he says star thistle is his favorite honey. I am looking forward to Cotton blooms in about six weeks. I hope, I hope………. There should be some watermelon blooms a bit earlier than that. My bees gained some honey on Watermelon last year, although most beekeepers do not think it is very productive. I'm in a similar situation as you, in that I have five really good hives that just need some forage.

Star Thistle is premium honey in california. It's a rich medium color and taste and nice a pourable. It's a thorny purge on the land tho, no one likes it but beekeepers, it's our last ditch hope.

I like the play on words Jen.
It is labeled a noxious plant and invasive species up here. There are a bunch of university students hired that set up in the farmers market and give procures on what plants to destroy and which plants not to buy and plant in your flower beds. I ask who decides which plants are noxious and invasive. They come back with plants that compete with the native plants and crowd them out. At this time I point out that alfalfa, wheat's, potatoes, Canola, Apples, the corn that is planted to day, sugar beats, are all invasive species. The cows and horse that feed on the invasive species. The last guy I talked to I told him if he talked to and asked the indigenous first nations people about invasive species that they would say the white settler is the most noxious and invasive species to come to North America.

Pistolpete, you should know that if you're making bees are not making honey, if you're making honey you have to keep your bees, intact.
