;D I'm comfortable with this decision, it makes a lot of sense. Today I was in the next hive and low and behold, the very same scenario! a deep and two mediums. The middle medium honey bound, the top medium half way pulled. Switched them out. I sure like it when I get into a situation where I know what to do! Thanks Forum kisshug patpatpat  ;)

This is the bee I saw the other day in the bottom board when I thought the queen had lifted and flew away. After listening to the replies here, the next day I stood by the hive several times in the day hoping to find a returning queen. I caught a glimpse of a red bee going into the hive, and my heart took a jump, then I saw another red bee fly into the hive, and then another....  weeeeird!

My bees don't seem to have a bit of a problem with these red bees.

My description in first post:
"I'm still curious why her abdomen was a definate black and red color, when this hive is original bee stock. Like red down to the middle and black down to her stinger ~ scratching head on this one"

These red bees are a tad bigger than my honey bees. So far tho, I haven't seen any of the reds come out of the hive, only in?  :-\

Do I need to teach you about the birds and the bees Jen? Every new queen that swarmed and mated with the bad boy drones in the neighborhood. So when any one of her little baby's are born. any one of those bad boys could be the baby's daddy. When you think of it Queens are such sl##'s you never know what race her baby's will be. Which by the way is a good thing.

OMG! I've been sooo naive  :eusa_doh:

Apis- "When you think of it Queens are such sl##'s you never know what race her baby's will be. Which by the way is a good thing.

I prefer to use the word 'promiscuous' Apis... if you don't mind... eh hem. I do believe that that is the first questionable word I've heard you express  :D

Incidently! I haven't ever seen drones of different color! intriguing   ;) 8)

The different races of drones will be from different ma-ma's from different hives from across the trax on the bad side of town. the drones you see in your hives are the spitting image of their ma-ma's the egg is unfertilized and is not effected by the men that have been in her life.

   Good reply Apis.
If the queen mated with ten to fifteen drones your bees will have that many differtent fathers and will reflect their genetic traits, color size, temperament etc..
Having said that..   I have never seen a bee of that color. EXCELLENT picture of the bee flying Jen!

Scott Not very often do I see bees of that color but I have a hive last year that had some offspring that looked like that. They were a definite minority in the hive.

Ya Know! Dog gone it! I know all of that... sheeez! I just lost a couple of the puzzle pieces along the way. Thanks Apis and Scott for filling in the pieces about the boys across the tracks. Dated a couple of those way back in the day  :-[
