Created robbing /installed empty supers back on

After finishing extracting, I waited till late afternoon to place them back on and bees where all over the trailer!  I placed them back on anyway with robbers allover. I was going to wait till just before dark but I had to many.

Could that have been prevented?

In the future you might use a wet bed sheet to drape over your supers and take out just a couple at a time.   If robbing is happening, throw a few handfuls of grass on each landing board and hope things have calmed down by morning.

 I extract at a different location and cover them when I bring them back. Reduce the entrances on the hives just before I replace them.  I have set them out to be cleaned up before, about 100 yards from the hives, but they often get chewed up doing it that way.
