todays hive check
« on: August 05, 2014, 11:06:11 am »
I see many good things going on with my hive from a first year perspective. Got lots of brood, queen is still laying good, Saw newly emerging bees today as well, I did find a cluster of larger made cells towards the bottom of one frame and what looks to be one drawn queen cup. Im now keeping an eye out for this may be an opportunity to make a split off of this. I find it amazing the changes they go through every week. Heres hopping they continue to do well. did not get pics today kept having issues with some bees finding away in my suite. I must have had my vail come out at the neck or some thing. Sure did make an interesting inspection.

Did you start from a nuc or a package?  I'm a first year-er, also.  When did you install them?  Have yours already drawn out two deeps of foundation to comb?

I started my to this year nucs, but down here in Florida we get a bit of a head start in February as the first of the nectar were starting. Initially they were on medium frames but I install them in deep hive bodies put the mediums in the middle of the rest out with deep frames. Within two months they were pulling out the deep frames and I was able to cycle out the mediums I only keep one or two of the medium is now in each hive because the bee's draw drone comb out from the bottom bars sort of the build in IPM lol
