New one on me
« on: August 15, 2014, 09:48:45 pm »
Had a guy call tonight asking about doing a bee removal from a tree.  After we talked awhile we got to fees. When i gave him a price he flipped a bit and then said "i was told beekeepers will pay good money for bees"  so if anyone is looking for a bargain let me know :o

You don't pay for the joy of increased risk and liability? Not to mention the gas and time and equipment it takes to do a removal?
I'm not surprised he's shocked.  you may want to rethink this...    :'(

I have had similar.  After the first one I try to be prepared for it. When they get upset a lot depends on how belligerent they are..  If they are BAD I just leave, if they arent too bad I explain the cost, I show them the newspaper clipping I carry of a repair bill of over $7000.00 to a house the owner used a bug bomb in his attic to kill bees and I leave my card.
Usually after getting a few more prices those I gave my card will call me back.

can't really say that I blame the guy for being a bit taken aback.    Kind of like putting a used car for sale in the paper and someone calls up asking for $200 to tow it away for you.   He thought he was sitting on a gold mine,  Kind of a natural assumption to make after all the media circus about how endangered bees are.   Good for a laugh though.
My advice: worth price charged :)

I've had that happen often. I just tell them we do pay for bees. I can bring him an empty hive and pay him when he has them installed. The charge is for the removal. If he wants to take them out, I will pay him for the bees
