I think there is a foundation here in Cali. I was telling Perry that I'm not sure if I could bring a grey home while our Katy is still living, she is getting older and can get snippy. Not sure I would want that attitude to rein on a tired grey. I'll have to do some research on the foundation here and ask some questions.

I assume Katy is a dog. They should meet prior to bringing a new dog home. Our greyhound never looked at other breeds as a dog. He showed no interest. Now when another grey was around, that was a different story. He acted like a pup again. Eddie did live to be almost 10, but he had spent such a long time at the retirement kennel waiting to be adopted, that's why we didn't have him but 4 1/2-5 years.

I rescued a dane catahoula mix pup in Feb 2013, but my shar pei / gsd mix said,nope, no big puppy thinking he can hump me. (the dane was NOT full grown but had lived his first 6 months on a rope, 2nd 6 months in a cage in a shelter, so he was pretty darned bouncy...

they got into it, I got my hand bit, and my computer guy has the dane. All my dogs are rescues, and all are mixes.Vet bills are cheaper without inbred health conditions. You can just barely see my shar pei in the back. I got so lucky with him, he has none of the health problems that go with the breed, and is not temperamental. Just doesn't like bossy young male dogs....

I got my rogue's gallery when my beautiful and much loved German Shepherd / Border collie died of diabetes insipidous, probably from a pancreatic tumor
I already had my rotti, Bronx, to keep Spike company when I was working. finally got the young dogs trained to all go around the block properly together a couple of week's ago http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n406/gypsi_fw/pets/baby_miley_spike.gif Spike liked the kitties.
Spike also was a bee-eater. And trained Bronx to be a Bee-eater, who trained Camelo to be a bee-eater. Cici tells the boys what to do, but I think she is a bee eater too. If I can train her not to eat the bees I will have a bee dog.

We have a couple more weeks. The mother is weaning them now and they are eating solid food 3 times a day so it wont be long

Most folks wait until 8 weeks to bring a puppy home.. The purpose of which is that potty training can begin in earnest after 8 weeks.. I prefer to get a puppy at five to six weeks and then have "LOTS" of patience that first two weeks.. Never scolding, just running for the door with pottying puppy in hand...

My Personal Springer Spaniel was potty trained in three days, and she was retrieving a bird to hand by the time she was three months. She won the "field" trials when she was six months, and we were asked NEVER to return and I was accused of "ruining" the breed by training a show springer for field work...
My current dog, The red doberman.. well.. I sort of fell in love with her after she fell in love with me.. My wifes doby delivered 11 pups.. One of them was a BEAUTIFUL black and tan male.. I decided right away I wanted him... By the time 8 weeks arrived... the little red female had won my heart.. She was potty trained almost from the very first time I ran outside with her while she left a tinkle trail behind... we been best friends ever since...

The breeder has said that if we want the pup at 5 weeks she was comfortable at letting it go to us. Since the mom was weening them now. We have heard arguments for and against but most of the people will say the dog if nurtured will be closer to humans. It says if you have other dogs in the house it helps also.

Ah, tis a brave thing to bring home a tiny pup. With my work schedule, the youngest dog I've adopted since 2004 is 6 months, and she was already housetrained.
