Two Tree Tuesday!
« on: August 27, 2014, 08:24:02 am »
Well, yesterday was the day that me and a bud decided to get the bees out of that bee tree that Hurricane Aurther did in.
We arrived in the morning, made a few cuts to figure out what was where, and then decided to lay down the half that had the colony. We made a few more cuts and vac'd out the bees. We took away a full deep of bees, and left a box with the banded comb for all the remaing bees, and picked it up last night (it was full).

As I was sitting down to supper I got a call from a crew that was clearing a building lot. They dropped a tree and got chased by a colony. They wanted it saved, but it had to be that evening otherwise they would be exterminated to allow work to continue. It was a fortunate split in the trunk which exposed it perfectly for me. No power so no bee vac. Did it old school, and even saw the queen when I was trimming comb. She dived into the box before I could catch her so it didn't matter anyway. I picked it up this am.

Nice way to spend the day, tho I think you should wear a bit more protection.

Actually that's my beekeeping buddy Eric. He does everything by the book. He is a carpenter who does high end work, so no half measures with him.
He brought the generator to run the vac, etc., he has more tools than the hardware store.  :D
He was telling me yesterday how he took a chainsaw course years ago, in the Yukon I think it was. The instructor told them he was going to show the class how not to start a chainsaw, using the drop start method. The course only ran 15 minutes that day as didn't the instructor do exactly what he said, he opened up his leg and had to go to the hospital.  :P

Looks like two good boxes of bees you got there, if the flow is still on or one to come they will probity be good for winter, still feed.

If they don't look like they'll build up enough I can always combine.
My friend Eric got the first one, I've got the second, along with the 2 swarms I caught this last week. Feed on all.
