Anyone know how to get wax off driveway?
« on: September 02, 2014, 09:09:16 am »
Is there anything that can be put on the wax to loosen it enough to get it up with a pressure washer.

Lighter fluid, diesel?

So, are you saying I can take a torch to it and burn the spots off?

I just have spots of black all over driveway from dropping wax and now they turning black.  Looking kinda like a parking lot.

Paved or cemented?

cement.

I just tried a few things.

Furniture stripper- nothing
Mineral Spirits- not much
Heat Gun-Nothing (have read where high heat from a torch can make concrete pop)

Lighter fluid- loosened it up petty good.

I may just put lighter fluid on each spot, let it sit then pressure wash off.

High heat will pop concrete, heat will melt wax and it can absorb into concrete if it is not sealed. Scraper and wire brush?

I would suggest COLD and wire brush. Ice or ice water.

Either of these two methods has worked for me. Take a roll of paper towels and an electric iron, the kind your mama would use to put a crease in your go to sunday meetin' pants. Turn the iron on Low, lay a single or double layer of paper towel down onto the wax spot, place the iron on top of the paper towel, count to 10, lift the iron and see if the wax is melting and re-absorbing into the paper towel. It's a matter of pulling the wax back up out of the cement and re-absorbing into something else.

Garden is right on about a cold treatment. I know that candle wax will fracture when frozen, but I don't know about beeswax. If I have a used up melted candle in a jar, I put it into the freezer for a couple of hours. Then poke the wax with a butter knife and it fractures into smaller pieces.

................this is a great read yankee........ :D
what we don't do...... :D

ya don't have to torch the driveway with high heat.......it might look funny down on your hands and knees. (mine is concrete) a wide putty blade and a SMALL propane torch. hit the globs briefly, scrape.  apis mentioned that the wax will absorb if not sealed, it can and does and it is not noticeable after one wisconsin winter..... :D

also works for propolis that ya scraped off your boxes, stepped on and mashed in.....

my problem is the paint globs.....these take awhile...... :D

good luck to you, and by all means, tell us what worked!

Yeeessssss.....   Avoid Driveway at all costs!   ALSO avoid getting propolis on shoes and walking into house..   Unless of course you are in NEED of an entire litter of new kittens?
