« on: September 16, 2014, 04:31:18 pm »
Can anyonehelp ole rat with this problem that has been bugging me all day.    In the word "scent" is it the s that is silent or the c?

It's the C. Otherwise it would be pronounced skent. It's a silent c that would be like a k if not silent.

Glad you posted it in humor.....  :-\

It's just another way of defining the word in the complex english language

Sent ~ mailed a letter
Cent ~ a coin

Scent ~ combining the S and C to make a new word with different meaning.

It's said that the English and Chinese language are the two hardest to learn.

I have heard that about learning the English language.  The English will tell you American are good butchers.  I thought it would be humorous to point out the Scent situation.

It's like pneumonia.  The p is silent, like in swimming pool.   :o

He went from being the quiet shy house guest to the devil of the house.  The shitzu hides from him and the other dane aint sure what to think.  But we about have him house broke and I worked with him on sitting today and he caught on pretty quick.  I'm thinking dang might have a smart one here. Then took him to post office where he ran  into a window at a trot only to back up and do it a 2nd time before I opened the door. So jury is back out on the smarts. ;D

If you don't think English is hard, just remember that read and lead rhyme, and lead and read rhyme, but lead and read don't rhyme, nor do lead or read.
