Central IL swarm Sept 19
« on: September 19, 2014, 11:51:21 pm »
Got a call from someone today about 1:00 with what I was pretty sure was a swarm after weeks of yellowjacket calls. It was between work and home and veil and boxes were all at home. Had the Mrs. leave a nuc box and veil there so I could snag them on my way home from work. Got over there and they had already moved themselves into the nuc! She had left the cover off near the tree where they were hanging. I put the lid on and came back after dark to retrieve them. I never did see the swarm or even a picture but based on the weight of the box was a good size swarm. I'll get some sugar on them tomorrow and see if they can survive the winter. Worst case, I have newly drawn comb to make splits with in the spring.

heheh  It was nice of them to save you some time!!   Maybe they knew their best hope of survival was to seek adoption?
