Had to at least try.
« on: October 15, 2014, 08:32:38 am »
Got a call yesterday. Homeowner had contracted to have some trees cut down in yard. They were going to spray them today.
Hopefully queen survived and I can get them to move up into the box. It has honey and pulled comb in it. Msy stick some eggs/larva in it today.

I did one years ago, but it was in January and the temps were around -15 C! (5 F) :o (they didn't make it)
You have a much better chance, and yes, if you hadn't tried their fate would have been certain.
Good on ya! ;)

Look who I found up in the boxes  :)

I put a a cloake board between the hive and the log now, so she is trapped up in the hive. I'll eventually remove the log when they settle down.
She is alive and well, thats the important part.

Yankee, your journey was characterized by good choices, producing an envious result in that box.  :)

Lol,

That's 2-1 sugar syrup.

Found a cane sugar refining plant about 40 miles from my house. They sell sugar that they cant sell to the public. (dnt bleach properly etc.) it looks a little gray. Oh well, it's 17 cents a pound. Bees don't seem to care.

I could not wait.  :)

TaDaa. Unbelievable. The log was cut from the top of a tree and hit the ground, then a guy cuts right through the hive with his chain saw, Then we load them in a truck and drive them 8 miles and unload them.

And now we have capped larva. Both side of frame are layed. She must have started laying the day I put this comb in.

Man, I love this stuff.

Well, it HAS been a lot of luck and a lot of hard work. But I've said this before and I'll stand by it. I would not have been able to have done any of this without the folks on this forum, I have learned so much from being on here. I am finishing my 3rd summer in bees and without this forum I would probably be struggling with 3 or 4 hives (instead of 45)and may have given up by now.

Great folks, great knowledge and encouragement on here.  I've done some boneheaded mouth breathing things with bees over the past 3 years, but always get picked up by folks here.

So, hows that? Can I stay now Iddee?
