Came out of winter with 48 out of 51, sold 60 nucs, and now have 65 colonies and 5 nucs.
It's been a good year for me.  ;D

I do!  I went from 0 to 1.  Thats, like, an infinite increase.  Not bad at all, if I say so myself.

I doubled.  I went from 3 to 6.  One was a split last year that I overwintered as a nuc.  Doing great. Another was a split I made this year.  It's doing great.  Then there were two packages I ordered, just in case.  No regrets about those packages except they arrived in late June.

I cut back drastically. Went into winter with less than 10, sold 10 to 20 nucs, gave away 10 to 20, going into this winter with less than 10.

Normally, winter less than 10, but sell 40 to 50, give away 20 to 40. Looks like the years are catching up with me. I can't tear into buildings at 90 F. plus for 4 to 8 hours any more.

I went into last winter with 11 and came out with 3.  This year I built back up to 16, combined back down to 14. I'm really hoping this winter goes better than last.
I'm starting to think that the bees are keeping me...

Perry, that's nuts,

From 48 hives you sold 60 nucs and also harvested a truck load of Honey? and grew from 48 to 65.

You've got it figured out don't you? Nice.
That's why your my hero :)

A good year, and a lot of luck. ;)
You must remember that I do not work another job as most here probably do. Bees are what I do, and I love what I do. For the most part I don't think of much else (maybe a little local hockey, go Axemen!  :D) The ability to focus and do what needs to be done when it needs to be done is a huge advantage I have. I do not take my good fortune for granted, next year things could all go sideways. I could do everything exactly the same and have different results. This is what is so fascinating about what we do, it constantly changes and evolves, so we have to as well. It keeps us sharp (I hope). :D

Perry:A good year, and a lot of luck. ;)

The only luck in beekeeping that I'm aware of is when swarm lands on a 4 feet tree. :D
Your good year came from hard work and wise management.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
I am at 28 colonies now, and that's where I should stop until I retire. Beeing a weekend keeper, it's too much work in two days, no time for gardening or fishing.
With so much beework I can only grow garlic in my garden beds. :)
Ideally, in spring, if overwintering goes well, I could sell ~20 nucs and still have a nice honey crop.

And being that you are in Ontario, they (nucs) should be an easy sell. I imagine many are still trying to recover from the provincial 60% losses.
