alright, I have to read the trapout thread, this hive is in a tree 25 ft off the ground, I am SURE not trying to cut it out, tree trimmers asked me Friday if I could do anything about it. not trying a hogan swarm trap, although I do have the box I built for one.

Gypsy some tree probers are set up with buckets and slings so they can take large sections of the tree down. Get get them suited up so they feel invincible and talk them into bringing the feral colony section down to you.

I've did several trap outs using iddee's advice.
If you do what he says and not try to re-invent the wheel and don't cut corners it will work.
And yes EGGS are the key.

I know this is an old thread but-I've screened over the entrance to a hive the night before a tree was due to come down. then I'd have the tree trimmer help me load the section of log that had the hive in it or I'd wait & open the log up after they left.

This is an old thread that I had not seen, but I enjoyed it so much that I watched it twice and intend to watch it again.  I was already impressed with Iddee's knowledge of bees, but this video convinced me that he was farther up the learning curve than I had imagined.  Wow, what a lot of good information.  It makes me jealous of his knowledge, but not jealous enough to study that much.  Iddee is a bee master.

Iddee, I watched this last year when I attempted my first trap out (too late in the process  :-[ ). I tried to watch it again yesterday, but I keep getting a 404 error. Am I doing something wrong or is the link broken? I found the info incredibly helpful as I'm sure most newbees would  :) :) :)

I see how the trap-out works, and I have two places to set up a trap-out come next spring.  My question is: what happens to the old queen?  The trap-out is catching her foragers; therefore, she and the nurse bees will run out of nectar.  Do they starve, or will they abscond prior to starvation?

   Typically once the number of bees she has with her declines far enough she will take those remaining bees and abscond.
   (Never mind was already answered)

   The hardest thing to do is have patience during a trap out. The second hardest thing to do is to make sure the bees don't find or make another exit.
