Jane's candles
« on: November 21, 2014, 07:47:55 pm »
My lovely wife Jane knows how to make candles as well!  :)
Years ago at a work place, they had an employee craft fair at lunch so fellow workers could show off some stuff. My wife made a few pair of candles . When she went back at the end of the day her candles were gone, money left, and someone had started an order list!!!!

Every now and then she will order some sheets of beeswax and crank out some for Christmas gifts.
I'm going to try and sell them at the market too.
I don't know if it turns up in the pictures, but after she rolls them, and flutes the edges, she rolls the finished candles in gold dust so that the high fluted edges get covered in it, looks purty.
Trying to figure out a price point.  :-\

Why does she look 30 years younger than you?

Nice candles. You should give her some bees wax.

I've tried to get her to make "my" candles, as in pouring them, but no dice! I don't know if any of you are aware but my wife is absolutely mortified of bees, always has been. Rolling these candles is about as close as she'll get. :D

Beautiful candles, those look like at least $20 a pair in Texas.  If stamped made in USA.  In your case you get the idea...

She did a great job on the candles I think and I believe I would give her all of my wax if I was you.

I was kinda thinking that Jack..  Young and PRETTY, so what the heck is she doing with Perry?  Then you mentioned candy and it all clicked!

;D   THose are sharp candles Perry and Mrs. Perry..  Definitely worth the 20 dollar price tag, maybe more! Especially the multi colored ones I see wrapped up and ready to sell.  I am in the process of figuring out how to make a wax board so I can peel sheets of wax from it JUST to make that style candles.. did you make her the wax Perry or buy it?

We buy the coloured sheets of beeswax. There is a fantastic place in BC (clear across the country) that sells premium candle stuff, I buy my tea-lite cups and wick from them, so it only made sense to get the beeswax sheets there as well. They will not ship in cold weather, and will answer just about any question you have about candles.
I first met the owner when I lived there and was looking for my first extractor. They used to also sell beekeeping supplies but were just in the process of selling out all those supplies. When I called there were no extractors left, but after thinking a bit he said he remembered that he had a "rental" that they had and he was tired of having to chase it down all the time, so he told me to come down and pick it up, he'd give me a good price.
I guess so!  :)
You have to look hard at the receipt, but you should be able to see it. (1st item)

That's the sub total, the extractor is at the top:
"used Maxant extractor
1.00 ea at $25.00"

add some sheets of wax and wick and the sub-total before tax was $40.98.
This was one of those deals we dream about!

Hey! Nice candles!  Very unique.  I have no idea what you could sell them for though.

Our anniversary is on the 16th of December (19th).
The story of how we met is too funny. Her brother and I both started jobs as transit drivers at the same time so we car pooled for a few months to say some money. After a few weeks he said "you should meet my sister, you'd like her".
Now, no offense, but Rob was, how to say this diplomatically :-\, a bit overweight, short on teeth (you get the picture), etc. etc.
I just said to myself, "Uh, I don't think so pal". ;D

Anyway, after a few months he says to me that he is having a party, do I wanna go? I figure sure, why not?
I walked in and saw the most beautiful girl I ever laid eyes on standing against the wall. After a drink I walked up to Rob and asked who she was.
"That's my sister" he says!  :eusa_wall: :eusa_wall: :eusa_wall:
I figure I lost about 3 months of my life not being with her because of my preconceived notion. :D

Best day of my life.

I got this cake made for our anniversary a couple years ago. We were laughing cause in her high heels she's taller than me so when they started takin pictures she saw me standin on my tippy toes so she crouched down to help out!  :D
