Candle molds

For all that make and sell candles.  Which one sells the best for you?  I'm thinking about buying 1 mold.  I like this one but it is fairly large and I don't have a lot of wax.  Girlfriend wants me to get this one also.  But, I want one that will sell.  This one is 3"x3".  Takes 8.3 oz.

I've got 2 answers for you buddy:

1st is, that is the mold you will be buying because your girlfriend wants you to.
2nd is, I have almost always found the larger candles are very slow to sell. I gave up making the 3x3" and the 3x6" pillars because very few people are willing to spend what is needed for all that wax.
When it comes to beeswax candles I have found that smaller sells quicker and is usually more profitable.

Now, go out and buy that mold or there'll be trouble. ;)

what perry said crazy, especially if you don't have a lot of wax.

the few times i made candles, the votives and smaller candles sell the best.....the larger ones move slower as perry already said..... ;)

I like this one, it cranks out 3 candles at a pour and they sell well for me @ $3, using not that much wax.

Talking to the boss we have settled with this one.  It was a toss up with the one Perry posted and this one.  Has anyone burned this candle?  Was wondering if it burned evenly.  What $$ would you sell it for?

Looking at the wick it seems like it is over to one side of the candle, so not sure how it will burn. I also noticed with this mold that you will only be pouring one candle at a time versus 3 with the other one.

I waited for some candle makers to chime in on this topic before I did.  When I read your post, my gut instinct was to go small because you said you didn't have much wax to work with.  With small, there is less investment for you and for customers.  Once they see how clean they burn and smell, they will be back.  The bears hugging the skep is sure cute, but I tend to lean towards Perry's 3 skep mold.  If you only have one mold, at least let it make multiples.  A single mold would be very tedious.

I'm new to the game of candle making.  I do like the 3 candle mold.  Yes, it will make more candles in one pour.  But, with the majority of candle buyers being women I'm looking for that "ah, that's cute" impulse buy.

I watched the documentary.  Found him very interesting!  My girlfriend watched it with me. Halfway through the film I saw her grinning shaking her head.  She said, "Good lord!  That's you in 20 years!!"  "You got a Golden receiver, you sit next to your truck selling honey. You sell Cree's Bees lip balm and you're kinda a hoarder"

I think the votive mold that makes 6 votives looks pretty durable and only around $14.

My two molds came in the mail today from Mann Lake.  I noticed there are no slits in the side of the mold.  I assume I'm suppose to make them myself?  Good grief!  I don't want to cut them!!

DON'T CUT ANYTHING!
If you got the 3 skep mold, once the wax hardens, just gently pry the silicone away from the wax and it will loosen it up enough that you can lift the molded candles out.
I REPEAT, DON'T CUT THEM!

I didn't!!!!  I did buy the 3 skep mold and the one with the bear hovering over a skep.  The bear came with a rubber band sooooooo?  Thanks Perry!

The one with a rubber band may have a "slit" in it to ease release. I just bought the little 3 candle mold with the twists in them. It arrived with 5 rubber bands, and at first I could not see any slit or cut, but if you flex it a bit, it should show up. The slits don't go all the way to the "bottom" (which is actually the top of the candle) so don't try and pry it all the way down (3rd pic)

I checked the mold again.  No slit.  Will call Mann Lake in the morning.  Do you have to prime your wicks?  I watched a Youtube video where a beek dipped just the wick of a complete candle in beeswax to prime.  Thanks for your help Perry! ;D

Never primed a wick (didn't know I was supposed too). Never had anyone complain, and the candles we burn do so just fine.
