Who's your go to store
« on: December 05, 2014, 03:17:49 pm »
With Christmas approaching family members are asking me what I want.  All I want is a nice gift certificate from a beekeeping shop.  In the past I have asked one from Walter Kelley.  I tend to find one place a stick with them.  This year I want to possibly branch out and look at other places.  What place do you like to order from that has good products, good prices, and good shipping!

I've found the closest or the free shipping is best. Prices are so near the same, along with quality, the shipping is the deciding factor.

That being said, the woodenware is slightly different, so for best fit, it's best to stay with one.

I am not loyal to any one retailer.  But, after checking prices and possible free shipping, I tend to go with Brushy Mtn.(seem to have good sales) and  did just place an order with Mann Lake that arrived in very good time (discount + free shipping).
You might want to go to the different retailer's websites and see what makes you drool before you decide.
Online retailers, in general, are waking up to the consumer's desire for free shipping.  Some of this stuff, like honey packaging, doubles the cost of the product when you calculate the shipping.
I agree with iddee about woodenware differing from retailer to retailer.

bakers 12 and iddee's reply.....good replies, i tend to agree, but shipping is not always a deciding factor for me....

i am loyal to a company nearest me.....b and b honey farm; their wooden ware is by far exceptional to anything i have ordered from anyone else......shipping is relative on this one to me, to get the quality they carry, and their customer service is exceptional.

having said that, i have ordered from mann lake, brushy mountain, and walter t kelley for other items, but my first 'go to' is b and b.

Because I'm all the way west here in Calif it's hard for me to suggest for you. But I do like B & B Honey Farms and Dadant has been very helpful.

We are somewhat limited way up here, the closest bee store is in New Brunswick, roughly a 4 to 5 hour drive one way. I buy a lot of stuff from them even though I can sometimes get it cheaper by going farther afield. They are nice people (George and Ruth Wheatley) who always take the time to answer my questions, even when it doesn't result in a sale. When it comes to local, use it of lose it.

I use Mann Lake and Dadant.  Both of them are very helpful, courteous and prompt with their shipping.  Like Iddee said, as far as woodware goes, I would choose one vendor, as I have both Dadant and Mann Lake and mixing the two does not allow for a perfect fit.  A workable fit, but not a perfect fit.

Thanks Barry!  I'm not laughing.  I order from Amazon from time to time.  That information may come in handy when I need something extra so that I can get free shipping.  I just placed an order with Amazon for Increase Essentials by Larry Connor.  In this case free shipping wasn't an issue as I did some Christmas shopping at the same time.
