I would consider a premium filter to be Amsoil, K&N, Mobil 1, Bosch, any filters designed for absolute filtration.
There is a bypass filter on the market that uses a replaceable filter that looks like a roll of toilet paper. It's supposed to be top of the line, but I can't remember the name.
I've asked the lab rat which filter is best, but he won't name names. He does research for most major manufacturers, so he feels it would not be ethical to promote any one.
He did say that the " orange one" is at the bottom of the list.

The premium filter is the golden bullet.

What do you consider a premium filter?
Among many of my gearhead friends, any WIX filter is a premium filter because of its quality construction and the size of the particles it will collect from the oil.  If memory serves, several premium filters sold by NAPA, carquest and a few others are made by Wix with the seller's label on them.  Buy Wix filters when yo can to filter particles down to about 10 microns.

To piggy back on Lazy shooter's oil story......My brother had a Buick LeSabre and changed the filter and topped the oil off (mobil one) every 5,000 miles until he sold the car with 246,000 miles on it.  It was running strong w/ no oil consumption for years after that.  He worked for Halliburton and learned of that practice from some of their experts.  Haven't had the nerve to try it myself.

After 25 years, it certainly doesn't owe you anything!
Perry, I took those words as a challenge---took the motor apart, cleaned out the  carburetor, the cylinder and valves, a few more parts got polished up and re-assembelled.  Net result was that for the first time in at least a year I was able to mow the lawn wihout a hiccup.  No new parts, just fixing up, cleaning and adjusting the old ones.
Thanks.  Now we'll see how many more years I can squeeze out of it.

Good man Ef.
I have a self-propelled lawnmower that had the drive go out of it a couple years ago. I stripped all the gears out of it and use it as a push lawnmower, but I have to tell you, those self-propelled jobs are built a lot heavier, resulting in a wicked workout when pushing them.
But then, after the grass stopped growing this year, I kept my eyes open for a deal on a lawn tractor and finally found one. A new (to me  :D) 2007 Mastercraft. I will use it on most of my bee yards as well so hope it was a smart investment ($300).

Sounds like you got a good deal.  One can't compare prices here with those of the "new world" on the other side of the pond.  But if I trranslate the price I paid for my push model when I bought it new 25 years ago, it comes to something close to $300.
Which is one reason why I squeeze every bit of use I can get out of it.
