Gas prices.

What a Christmas present America is getting now. I bought it for 190.9 cents a gallon yesterday. Hope it stays down long enough to get my pension check so I can get enough to fill every gas burning fuel tank up.
News story is the low prices are going to ruin the ecomeny if it keeps up. First off every thing cost so much today mostly due to fuel cost for manfacering, delivery and all that stuff. Puts people on a fixed income in a bind, it did us I know.
I am not going to be holding my breath how ever as I know they (oil company's) will make some excuse to raise the prices again at least like one oil producer in OK said by shutting down wells.

Alleyyooper, I believe inflation caused by higher fuel prices has been a large component of our economic woes for the last several years, you are spot on with that observation. 

Our economy and culture was founded on cheap oil prices. When that changed, our economy  stumbled over and over again.  Shipping costs affect every aspect of our lives, not just the cost of shipping bee-related stuff.  ;-)

Fareed Zakaria (on his show called GPS -the only show I watch on CNN) recently had a segment on the price of oil and its effects on us and OPEC countries.  Iran needs the price of oil to be $134 per barrel to balance their budget.  Russia, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela and others need over $100 per barrel to balance their budgets.  The shoe might be on the other foot for a while :fistpump:   The big relief on our oil prices is China's lessening demand for oil.  1% decrease in oil demand by China results in 10% lower price for the rest of us.  Their demand did not grow last year, it may have receded a bit, plus, Canada and US have raised production.

Lets hope the prices stay low...    I am fully prepared to make Alcohol illegally (Since NO ONE in the BATF will respond to my request for a permit) to run my trucks on..   I have my horses, and I have three older trucks that can ALL easily be converted to alcohol.   I'll be honest, the point was nearly reached..  I have the old fuel barrels and the grinder mixer to grind the corn..  I rebuilt my fathers grain bin to hold the corn I bought, and have spoken with three different farmers about planting corn in my fields..  My (fathers) bin will hold about 10000 bushel of corn..  fill the bin, the rest of the corn is yours to keep/sell..  needless to say, they are VERY willing to accept that deal..
   Prices have come down, so my urgency to do something illegal is drastically falling to the side...   not sure what they will do when they find that the alcohol is not drinkable..(Denatured) they cant get me for selling it either, just distilling it.   So far, the prep involves 21 people who have donated equipment, and they all have vehicles capable of being converted.  One of them is in pursuit of the required permits, but has run into the proverbial brick wall..   On hold, being transferred endlessly between departments..  Next we will have to chip in to hire a lawyer to force the issue..   
   I can only assume our govt doesnt want us making alcohol to run our vehicles, because it will cost them money.. if enough people do it (it is actually pretty easy to do) they will lose a LOT of money...

 I'm glad were getting some relief. Who knows how long these lower gas prices will last. I hope we can see 2 dollars a gallon By next summer. Right now I pay 2.88 a gallon. We have two strikes against now. If we get hit by the 3rd one. It will cripple the world economy. The American people are very passive. They want their good living. They forgot their history overnight. An American president told us to get out of the middle east and move away from their oil all together. What did we do, fight two wars, the second strike was over big oil companies. We paid big time for the Exxon Valdez and BP oil spill. If we come to the 3rd strike it will cripple the world economy. We must move away from oil all together now. We don’t need ethanol. We could use the corn to help lower our food prices at home and sell off what we don’t use. We must develop a new type of vehicle now, Hydrogen fuel cell cars and trucks. It will be 30 years before the average consumer will be able to afford one.

Hydrogen would be an excellent fuel source.. byproduct = water. The problem is we have to wait for the big money people, specifically the oil companies to think of it and develop it..   Otherwise, it will be THEIR money putting a stop to it.

From what I'm reading, the oil companies are shutting down wells now here because it's not cost effective to run them.  The pundits are predicting the glut will be gone by March and things will start going up again.  I like cheap gas, but my oil stocks have tanked (no pun intended).

I was telling someone the other day that it liked to killed me when gas went from $0.35 to $0.50 per gallon.  Cigarettes were $0.35 a pack then, too.  That's what's wrong with me, I remember when things were cheap.  Kids today think $2.50 or $3.00 per gallon is normal.

I payed 2.85 yesterday, I can get it cheaper at the Indian reservation for 2.15 gallon because I wouldn’t have to pay the state gas tax. our gas tax is about 60 cents on every gallon we purchase. Money goes for road and bridge repair.

In Texas, you can apply to the Secretary of State for tax exemption on diesel used for agricultural purposes.  It saves about 60 cents per gallon.  We have a hefty tax on gasoline and diesel.  It too is supposedly used for road and bridge repair.  To me that's a fair tax, as the people paying the taxes are the beneficiaries of the tax.  It's a "user" tax.

If our current fuel prices last long, it will put a damper on inflation.  I can't imagine how much the cost of house hold items (groceries) is transportation related.

 I don’t pay taxes for diesel fuel for my tractor. The state put a red dye in the fuel. Its called off road fuel. They don’t charge us the tax when we buy it. Its about a dollar a gallon cheaper. Its  for Agricultural purposes only. If they catch us using it on the road. we pay a fine. The Indians don’t put a dye in their fuel. We don’t pay taxes when we buy it from them.

Was 187.9 here Christmas eve for gasoline. We also pay a road tax on fuel used in cars and trucks on the highways that is supposed to keep the roads in good repair. Key word is supposed too.  Just passed a bill in Lansing to drop that tax raise the sales tax but they are to cowardly to just do it. Going to let the people vote on it in May, roads are so bad is expected to pass.
Problem lies in the truckers who can carry 120,000 pounds will get off cheaper that way.

I filled up on the Missouri side of the state line last night.  It was $1.89.  I try to always fill up on the MO side because it is any where from 5 to 10 cents cheaper than in KS.  Sounds piddly, but over a year's time, it adds up.   Less taxes in Missouri and their roads and bridges show it.  I also have to pay a Kansas City earnings tax that I personally don't see any return on, so at the end of the year, we're even.

If all other things are equal, I also buy gas where it is the least expensive.  It is my way of rewarding those that do their best for me.  I don't think it's piddly to save any amount of money.  If we all bought from lowest price vendor it would tend to bring gas prices down.

On my mechanic's recommendation I use a branded petrol on occasion. The idea is that the additives clean out the engine/tank from using the cheapest fuel.

About every 10,000 miles I run a Lucas fuel injection cleaner through all of my vehicles.  Among other things, it supposedly cleans the fine particles from the gas filter and allows those fines to pass through the engine and assist in keeping the filter clean.  But, I'm somewhat of a maintenance nut.

A report on the radio speculated that gas prices would remain low for about another month.  Then the oil companies will drop production so that the prices will rise again. 
If one was wanting to take a road trip, now is the time.  When you can cut the cost of a tank of gas by over half, it only makes sense to take advantage.
