Shooter.. a lot depends on your intended use for the vehicle.. MOST guys I do the swaps for use them in the mud out here.. we dont have ROCKS to climb about on, no mountains etc.. its CLAY MUD, its about the slimiest most tenacious stuff you ever had cling to your boots and tires.. It doesnt CAUSE breakages as such, but it does get into EVERYTHING causing it to wear out fast..
I install a lot of Drag race u joints.. they have a solid X with no hole for grease and they are very strong, but not being greasable means they dont last as long..... but as stated above, they dont last long in this mud anyhow...
Breakage isnt common, until you get into the big tire and outlaw classes.. AND get into the air.. When you land with all that horsepower and reciprocating mass at the end of the axles coming to a dead stop... well.... I figure you probably get the picture..
If I could keep this on the ground I never broke an axle or a u joint.. Unfortunately, most mud pits are rough, with 46" tires and an 800 HP big block, it was not prone to staying on the ground;
This one on also liked to get air, but with less weight and smaller tires we wore out more axle joints and u joints than we broke. It "only" had a small block in it..
HAVING the power doesnt mean you need to USE it.. OK, so maybe it does... Add that much power to anything and you will start to break and wear out components not meant for that much abuse..
A stock car or truck with 200 HP from the factory doesnt hold up long under abuse when you upgrade to 500 HP, so everything else has to be upgraded to match..
Thats my normal speech that most guys ignore, till later....
