feeling a bit like the mad hatter!

Well folks its getting that time of year where the whispers of springs knocks also spell to do list. I am in the direction of many lol prep the yarden, order the new chicks i would like, what new plants do i add, an seeds yes i need more of those too! My poor hubby has to deal with my ramblings or all this and the worst part is it all jumps out of my head at random like some sort of ADD ADH. God bless him for putting up with me.  Whats yals goals for this spring?

Still cleaning up some leaves. Need to purchase a couple more wine barrels. Will be planting sunflowers for sure, and maybe a new dogwood tree. That's what I have so far...

Oh, and I'm trying to be ready for swarming, or, maybe I'll get lucky and be able to do the split before there is any swarming behavior.

A building dedicated to all things bee related. Perhaps a workshop for building equipment, a storage room for supers, and extracting room dedicated to only that, a bottling room, just bee stuff and nothing else.

First of all, what is a “mad hatter”?  I’ve heard the expression applied to LSU coach Les Miles, but don’t really know what it means.

Secondly we’re not even CLOSE to spring here. :'(  I need to hammer some grounding rods into the frozen tundra if we ever get a break from this bitter cold cycle. 

Finally in my dreams I have lots of hopes for spring. ;D  Dahilas, Cannas, Petunias, some trees for wind breaks, would love to find some Linden saplings.  Unfortunately no garden because it wouldn’t have a chance against the deer.  Oh yeah, and I got to go to battle against the deer again in a few months. :sad:  :'( :sad:

Deer in the freezer don't bother gardens, and leave all that grocery money to buy bee stuff with.

Logic, the Mad Hatter is a character in the Disney movie, Alice in Wonderland. He is the one with the gray top hat on. Mad is a totally goofy guy  :)

Dont need to train the deer to walk into the frezer, but if you figure out HOW to do that let me know, it would save a TON of work!

    I have  a LOT of equipment to build, and just got two orders for some other things for other folks, so have to build that stuff first..
   Spring..   Apple trees, about 8 of them to plant. Grape vines, about 100 to plant..   I have ten ish acres to plant with Sainfoin, Birdsfoot trefoil crimson clover, buckwheat etc...  so need to get the disk out of the weeds and ready to go, and the spreader greased and make sure its ready to go..   Two new outyards to get squared away.. OH.. We have two foals on the way, I think both of our mares are pregnant..   I need to get the stalls in the barn built the wife has been asking for..   A lot nicer to deliver in a hay filled stall than  out on the cold pasture.  Queens to order, hives to split, supers to put on, dead outs to clean.. no end in sight!!   ;D

   OH!!!!!!!    Wife told me we are going to out up a new building, and GUESS WHO has the green light to design said building?  Go on! GUESS!!!!    Thats right     <------   THIS GUY!!   Wood shop, Honey room, Kitchen for melting wax etc, and boiling water/honey for mead and wines..  Basement for storage of wines etc, complete with running water and bathrooms. Possibly an apartment overhead..      The sad part?? I have been limited to 40 by 80..     heheh 40 by 80, but no one mentioned how many STORIES it can be!!!    (wiggles eyebrows)

40x80 = 3200 sq feet and a basement.  That’s not an out building, that’s another house!  Most of the out buildings/barns around here are on slab.  Just wondering what the benefit of a basement would be vs the added costs.

To pour a slab right, you still need at least 4 ft frost walls here..  So the cost of the extra 5 ft isnt that much to make 9'walls. It will not be a full basement, but about half the size of the building with an 8 x 9 door at the back. the purpose of the basement?  I will make it temp controlled and create some amazing WINE down there, as well as storing it once it is bottled. Honey storage, canned goods, Honey supers, furnace and utility room, plumbing access etc, all the good stuff basements are full of.    ;D

Scott, if you get a chance in Oct. go to Herman, Mo. to there Oct. German Fest. Many of the homes (settlers of the town) have wine making equipment and storage in their basements ;D. There are several winery's in the area to go too and taste there products (free) and many eating places 8), You may have already been there, but if not? Take a non drinking Driver with you. :D The town has alot of history and you can walk around and see display's and site see, we haven't been there the last 3 years but are thinking about a return trip, the town is built on the bank of the Missouri, River.
