I agree with Ef.  I also apologize for my part in this.  Hopefully we can just move on?  Ted

I used to play professional paintball.
When playing a game, it is important to be able to communicate quickly and clearly with your teammates so everyone knows what needs to be done on the field, or if any status changes have occurred (players eliminated, change in position, etc.)
Normally last names were used, but mine sounded to much like other commands called during the course of a match.
Zweefer was the moniker given to indicate me, as it didn't sound like anything else one would hear during a game.  Phonetically it carried over the noise of  the guns and paint, and was short as well.
Eventually i answered to Zweefer as much as my real name, and its been with me ever since.
The added bonus is there are very few Zweefers out there (I think I'm the only one) so getting the name when registering for things is pretty easy  ;D

Paintball really?   I have two big totes somewhere loaded with paintball stuff..  I sold my good guns, but still have three or four tipmans in those boxes..  Used to play paintball every weekend.. helped keep me in good shape.

I connect to the internet via 26.4 kbs dialup.   :'(

Slow,  I've got to know... Is this really still the case?  Nothing high speed available in your area?  Or changing out your modem to 56k?  What about using a smart phone as a hot spot for 3G or 4G?  I'm just having a hard time comprehending that 28.8 (or 26.4) is still even an option anywhere!  I feel for ya!

I have a 56k modem, but it only connects at 26.4 kbs.  DSL is two miles south of here, but they won't run it up to my house.  We're on the fringe of cell phone service, so wireless internet runs around 150 kbs.  Hughsnet allows us 250 MB a day download usage for ~$60/month and after that it's throttled to around dialup speed.  I have my weather computer ( http://www.wattsbarweather.net ) hooked to up dialup.  We have since installed Hughesnet (for now), but the usage is very limited.  Luckily, mostly text data (like this forum, except for the pictures) doesn't take much usage allowance.

I have grown weary of having to come up with usernames, passwords, etc., so I decided, "what the heck, use your real name".

Wasn’t he also the guy that helped the British take back Detroit in 1812?  Didn’t know he was also a Buckeye!

I still remember the old Tecumseh lawnmower engines.

Tugboat captain!  That's interesting.  Would that have been the White River?

When I was in college, my roomate created my first email account, he said I needed a name.  At the time I was playing a Nintendo game ( I think)  It was either Grand Turismo or Ridge Racer 4.  Since I played both games quite a bit at the time and like them both...well you see how I came up with my user ID which I have also used ever since.  (20+ years)  Hard to believe the internet has been around that long.

yes exactly correct LogicalBee and he also had his own indian rebellion brewing. Tecumseh was born near what is now Chillicothe Ohio and at the time of his birth a low arching falling star blazed across the sky which in the language of the Shawnee indians was a tecumseh or more accurately 'a panther burning in the night'.    Some think he was somewhat of prophet in that he was timing his rebellion to the earth quake of 1812.  he was reported to have told the tribes he was recruiting for his rebellion that his sign to start the rebellion 'that he would stomp his foot and the ground would shake, their house would fall down and the rivers would flow backwards.'  this rebellion was somewhat overshadowed by the war of 1812 in which Tecumseh died.  He was fairly well known militarily for his tenacity... which I guess is the one characteristic Tecumseh and I share.
