I enjoyed it.  Wish they had referenced a study other than the Harvard study on neonicotinoids.  Made some great points about the difference between hobby, sideline and commercial beekeepers.  Was pretty fair minded in its scope.  One can always pick on details, but it is pretty good and worth the time to watch.  :)

Hey Perry,  here's a link to the website for the show.  I'm sure they'll show it again.

At least now I know how to say neonicotinoids!

they referanced the Harvard study by Chencheng Lu? (SP?)   I would have thought anyone would be a little gun shy about doing that after that study was shredded by so many, including Randy Oliver.

I got the impression the program wanted to put the bulk of CCD on neonicotinoids.  Easy scape goat, but CCD is probably caused by a combination of stressors, like poor nutrition, GMOs, diseases, long distance transporting, and poor husbandry.  If you noticed, the huge beekeeper in Texas scaled back his operation to focus on honey and eliminated pollination services.  Also, some neonics are worse than others.  If a neonic is mixed with a fungicide, it's even more toxic.  More field studies are needed and homeowners need to apply chemicals as directed by the label.

I just watched this using the GorillaVid link... Thank you.  I found it fairly interesting.

Two points of interest to share...  At about the 29 minute mark, when they started talking about the Harvard study... They mention a man named Ken Warchol...  That's my state bee inspector.  I knew he was involved in the study.  He spoke to me about it, as did they guy (I forgot his name) that I bought a queen from last fall.  Unfortunately, that queen didn't make it.  However, the purpose I mentioned that:  when I drove to Uxbridge to pick that queen up, I was standing about 75' from the Harvard study hives they showed in the video.  Neat to have that relational experience to what they were referring to in the show.

In my opinion, they seemed to touch on many important topics.  For non-beeks watching the show, I feel some good points were made.

Finally finished watching it. I liked the part about beelining. I want to try that sometime to see if I can find a bee tree.
