are we on topic here?
"Dealing with my hot hive, I'm wondering if there is such a thing as a cranky or mean queen? good question for newbees"
yes, we can get hives that are aggressive in nature, its all in the genetics, or for other reasons that are sometimes not always obvious to us.
so we need to find out why a hive is aggressive.
btw if you are allergic, all it takes is one sting, irregardless of whether the hive is aggressive or not. if the few of us who have a true allergy that want to continue to work bees, it is in our best interests to minimize the exposure to stinging incidents. in all honesty, any of us going through allergy treatments are absolutely beyond any common sense at all for keeping bees.
if we have a hot hive? it does not make it pleasant to work allergic or not, the answer is figure out the problem and address it, and let's not let that hive get away from us, and cause our family members, neighbors, our critters etc.... to suffer from stings from an aggressive hive.
figure out what the problem is, and/or requeen.
