Compressor problem.

Well, I guess you get what you pay for. A few years ago (actually more than that) I got a Campbell Hausfeld pancake comprseesor with a brad/staple gun. It has been invaluable for putting frames together. Well I noticed it seemed to be taking longer to build air pressure and was starting to develope a pretty good rattle. I was just downstairs putting frames together when it suddenly got real quiet and was only making a whirring sound. I took it apart and see that the piston and shaft have separated from the "crank" wheel. I'm not even really sure what held it on there in the first place.
 











Well, I'm guessing this is it for the compressor as I can't imagine anyone bothers with trying to repair these things they seem to be built as disposable.
Any one got a good brand/ experience they want to share, keeping in mind I like to spend money about as much as Iddee, and he's cheap!

If you want one to last, you'll find a 3 to 5 HP horizontal tank, used. Ingersoll Rand and Gardner-Denver are two of the top names, but there are other good ones, too.

You need a good commercial build compressor if you want it to last.

2nd what Iddee said,  Pancake compressors run a lot more than a compressor with a larger tank.  The larger tank allows the compressor to take longer breaks between building pressure and wont wear out as fast.  Not to mention a lot quieter while your working

You will quickly see repair parts for these are kind of expensive compared to buying a good used compressor.

A lot of the Chinese stuff is throw away. They don't supply parts for them. That may be one of them. I have tried to get parts for several items with no luck. One set of gears I wanted was 120.00, the new machine was 99.95.

  That is the thing that amazes me the most, parts that cost more than the whole unit.

I didn't see FP 2080, but I saw FP 208000 and it's the same thing, a 4 gallon pancake.

We use a bunch of small compressors in our building business.
Under heavy use, small oil less compressors don't last very long.
We have many "Emglo" compressors that are used daily and are over ten years old.
They need to be oil lube pump motors to last.
