Wild Temperature Swings
« on: March 26, 2015, 10:40:54 pm »
78F this afternoon, 26F Saturday morning.   :o  Everything that's blooming will freeze this weekend.  It's not Dogwood or Blackberry winter yet (I don't think).  I've had syrup out.  I think the bees will be ok (unless they have a lot of brood to cover).  I hadn't planned on going into the hives until next week.  I'll keep my fingers crossed.

NOTE:  we need a fingers-crossed smiley!   ;)

A couple of years ago, before this ice age ;D, we had a really warm spring.  The apples bloomed way too early and then we had a hard freeze (of coarse) and killed off the entire apple crop.  Michigan is one of the top apple producing states in the country.

I'll trade your 78F for the miserable cold gray windy day we had today.  Oh yeah, it's also starting to snow again.  Joy.  12F tomorrow night.

Poor bees just can't get a break  :'(

Michigan is one of the top apple producing states in the country.

I've been told that.  Cider country, too.  And they raise a lot of beets and make a lot of sugar.  My wife grew up in Michigan (Rochester).

Ya, that little catastrophe was three winters ago, had to feed the bees all the way into the end of May, till the basswood and locusts came on.
It's not a honeybee, it's a honey bee. Whateveer!

So far it's only been down to 32F to 33F.  There's been a slight breeze all night to help keep the temperature up some.  I think we may have dodged a bullet this morning.  It's clear, and there should be sunshine soon for a moderately warm day.

Its been one crazy year for weather. I think everybody is sick of it already. Winter is still trying to hang on here. 4 inches of new snow last night and temp went down to 12 degrees. By mid week next week I should feel temps in the 50s :D

Barry you want to trade weather. I’m sick of this 10 degree sh-t.

We hit nineteen this morning, coldest this far into spring in 51 years.  I had already washed the insulated bibs and put them away.  Libertys and sweat pants didn't cut it this morning.

we too have experienced some wild temp swings, two weeks ago, 50's to upper 60's during the day, i think we actually hit 70ish for a day or two. then the slow decline back down into the 30's, and nailed with 8" of wet heavy snow last monday. also, some heavy winds blowing.  this past week, been in the 30's. maybe hit 40 today.

AAARGGG! 37F right now, low of 11F this morning. Paying for Lake Michigan, that big iceberg just west of us. ONE day of temps warm enough for the bees to fly so far. Forcasted high for Wednesday 51F

This was posted on another forum I read about weather from a guy up in Alaska:

THE TEMPERATURE SOARED TO 52 DEGREES AT THE FAIRBANKS AIRPORT ON

THE 26TH OF MARCH OF 48 DEGREES SET IN 1970.

That's a good thought for those that might be interested.  Altought I'm really hoping the breeze saves us again tonight.  We're so close to warmth, I hate to see things get frostbitten.

Have my wood stove going again.  Really bizarre since I was lounging by a warm ocean yesterday.
