first swarm ever

I captured a small (softball sized) swarm out of a peach tree Friday. Came from one of my top bar hives, but then I placed them in a long lang. I am hoping they make it after it warms back up tomorrow. Only a few have broken cluster. I assume because the weather has been cool and windy. Maybe 70's tomorrow will wake them up!!!

Just wait till you get a big one, it is even more fun.
Been catching swarms since I was a kid and I still get excited every spring, just too much fun!

Did you get the queen jjodie? if you did you may consider putting a queen excluder between the bottom board and the hive box for about 3-4 days  :)  especially if it's gonna be 70 tomorrow, they just may decide to hit the air again ~

Haven't seen her but believe I did. They seem calm and orderly, just held the cluster while the weather was cool. If not, I assume they will rejoin the original hive and I have two packages scheduled delivery Saturday.  Hard to lose that way.

 :) Calm and orderly sounds promising.

Last year I had very swarmy bees, found that the queen excluder held them down enough days to settle them down, otherwise they would be gone the next morning.

They are flying around and beginning to take sugar water. 69 degrees and they are getting active.  Calm and don't get agitated when I open the hive. Just don't seem bothered about drawing comb yet. Going foundationless again.
