First "Successful" Swarm of the Year for Me!

Nice little swarm. I didn't know if I would get them or not. Lady called me two days ago, but I didn't get a chance to go out there until today and they were still there. I think they were relieved to be in the box. Here is what was really cool. They were buzzing pretty loudly when they first got in, but when I put the top on, the buzzing slowly ramped down as if to say, ahhhhh!

Thats as close to free as they will get..   They were having a hard time hanging out till a beekeeper arrived! Anuther day and they would have had to pick another spot to congregate!!   Dang beekeepers are getting lazy nowdays.. how is a swarm to find a good home with mite treatments if they have to wait so long?     ;D

Swarms are so sweet. This is my first year on the swarm list and I really have enjoyed it so far. Glad you Got one!  free bees are wonderful

Have done a cut out, what a mess, poor bees. Haven't done a trap out yet. Have done several swarms, they are fun!

Swarms are the best way to get into beekeeping.
They are good natured,
start from the beginning,
cooperative,
say, "Thank you for giving us a home",
build combs quickly,
and so much more. 
Being free is only a side benefit.

When I get a chance to get a swarm, the adrenaline starts along with excitement and sometimes I tend to hurry and not think too much about what I'm doing. Tell me if I am missing anything or you would have done something different in this situation. After I got the nice little swarm home last night, I just let them rest. The box is a full sized deep with about half old foundation (not drawn) and half foundationless frames. Today, i put in about 5 frames of foundation, 1 semi drawn frame of comb smack in the middle, 3 foundationless frames and 1 frame feeder on the outside. I also put in place an entrance reducer to the smallest opening. Before anyone asks, the reason for the foundationless frames is because I haven't had a chance to build anymore frames with foundation. Most of my frames have the starter strip and the foundation won't fit. Did I forget anything?

You had a full box last night, then added 9 frames and a feeder today? That in itself is more than I have ever been able to do. Explain how a 10 frame box held 19 frames and a feeder.
