Blueblood's First Swarm of 2015
« on: April 28, 2015, 08:55:39 pm »
I was heading home from metal detecting when I got a page from work to call the guy that tows/impounds our vehicles.  I called him and he said he had a nest of bumble bees.  I was excited before he said this but then I remembered how folks just don't know what to make of swarms, ha! After a few questions, I knew I had my first swarm of 2015! It's been colder and I figured swarms were held back.  63 degrees when I shook them.  I am about to return for them now.  After shaking them, I went home and prepared all of my swarm gear and put an extra nuc in my truck for any other calls.  Putting one in my squad also.  And, four of several swarm traps being placed tomorrow.  Sorry for the shake and back when dropped them.  I really need to get a camera I can attach to my head or something.  The swarm was not even two feet off the ground.  Easy one! Enjoy!

very nice.  I guess I'd better start making preps for traps now too.
I'm starting to think that the bees are keeping me...

Nicely done!  You have to love it when they decide to gather where you can reach them.

I have now found two hives preparing to swarm and dealt with it...   last year it was mid May so we're at least two weeks ahead of last year.

Yeeeaaaah Blue! Love the vids. The two swarms I caught this year were easy like that... but don't say anything... I don't want to jinx it  ;) :)

Cool video Dave! I'm going through all my hives and ready to make splits if need be this weekend...seems swarms are happening earlier this year. Do you think we have mature drones to mate yet?

No can day Don.  I didn't look real hard, but did not remember seeing any drones.
