spring madness finally over (I hope)
« on: May 19, 2015, 11:48:35 pm »
I think I pretty much covered it all this spring.  I took my 4 wintered hives and made them into 7 Nucs for sale, 4 Nucs that I kept and 2 full size colonies.   So basically I made 4 into 13.  Along the way I raised 10 new queens, had a swarm (and caught them), ended up with 2 queenless Nucs and one drone laying one,  relocated all my bees to an outyard, built new boxes, frames, bottom boards, outer covers, inner covers, escape boards, hive stands etc...

Like I said, it's been madness.  On top of that I'm about to move 300 miles and start a new business.

Financially it's been kind of a wash.  I sold $1250 in bees and spent $1200 on an extractor and solar electric fence.   In other words, I worked a month of evenings and weekends and have nothing to show for it in my wallet.  Good thing I love this hobby!
My advice: worth price charged :)

Pete! You left out all the time you spent on the forum helping us :D I know you walked me thru a couple of situations that I hadn't any experience in yet... namely queenless hives.

Hope your move goes smoothly, and you're blessed with plenty of honey  ;) :)

I am a tile setter, I also do a bit of laminate, hardwood, and framing.  So when we move I'm going to have to re-establish contracting business.  Currently I mostly sub contract for a flooring store.  In the new town I hope to be more independent and get busy enough to have a couple of employees.
My advice: worth price charged :)

Sounds like you reinvested in yourself.  At least you don't have 13 nucs to move now.  :)
