helpin LazyBkpr with honey harvest
« on: July 19, 2015, 08:41:07 am »
Hi Everyone,
Josh and I spent some time helping Lazy and Wife of Lazy extract their honey yesterday.  Like they needed our help! But then, we weren't much help!

This is a shot of the entrance to Lazy's honey house.  Notice the bees on top of the doorway.  While you can't tell from this pic there were bees flying ALL OVER the entrance.  Also, Lazy had backed the truck up to about 4 feet of the doorway.

You'll notice that Fearless Josh kept a safe distance.  In Josh's behalf, Lazy was using an air hose to blow bees off the frames, and just "happened" to be blowing them right on Fearless Josh!

Fearless Josh was watching and learning from the master (lazyBkpr).

The apprentice ( Fearless Josh) trying his hand.

Round and round it goes!

Last but certainly not least, the hired hand, AKA Wife of Lazy.

That was fun!  Josh and I both had a great time, so here's a Big public thank you to Scott and Sherry for letting us hang out!  We also made off with OVER a half gallon of honey!

I'd like to add that possibly one person facing many supers of honey to extract might be a bit overwhelmed with the task.  Face it, it's a lot of work.  Personally I found yesterday quite enjoyable.  Of course Lazy and Wife of Lazy did most of the work and had all to gain or lose, which I imagine added to their pressure, so there IS that.  Having said that, it put ME in mind of bygone days where neighbors and friends helped each other.  Helped with the planting, helped with the harvest, helped putting up hay.  Just helped each other.  I admit to seeing that through the misty eyes of fond memories, and as such, it might not have been quite what I remember but, I do like to think that the camaraderie, the joking, the group decisions, the Social aspects of yesterday made it, if not easier, at least a little more entertaining for us all.  Ted

Riverbee?  Um, my pics are all jeewhompus, could you work your magic?

I think the consensus, with what they extracted the day before, was 25 gallons.  Ted

Also noticed I didn't take pics of the final product.  Lazy?  Maybe you could add some?

Just saw this thread...  sorry, I didnt take pics of the final either.  Total when the cappings were drained and all was said and done was about 360 Lbs give or take a couple...   I have about the same amount left on the hives that I need to pull when we get back from Maine..

Having Ted and Josh come help always makes the job go smoother and easier. As he already said, the talking and joking takes a mundane job and makes it enjoyable. I do feel a bit sorry for fearless Josh, as he seems to be the target of our....  affection? quite often...  His ability to shoulder it and give back when possible is to be commended.
Always glad to have you and your son come to help Ted!
