Maxant 500-50
« on: August 18, 2015, 08:09:56 pm »
Looking for some pics or illustrations of a Maxant 500-50F.

This is an old 50 framer that I am trying to figure out what is missing on the mechanics of it.

There is a mechanical speed advancement on it but there is something missing.

I've never seen one, but I would guess a hard rubber tire like wheel to turn by hand. Looks like the rubber wore out and came off.

The v belt pulley is free wheeling, there is a small chain sprocket next to it and is on the end of the shaft that turns the advance mechanism.

Could you be missing a small sprocket that either meshes with the other one, or a chain runs between them to give the hand wheel more leverage. No single pulley should be free wheeling. There is something goes there for the pulley to turn.

I used one of those beasts I have pictures of the extractor I will look through and see if one shows the drive feed. the v belt pulley has a belt to it and both the extractor spinning and the speed advancement are ran off the same motor It takes about 5 minute for the extractor to get up to speed and the advancement disengaged.
I don't know what happened to that extractor after Ernie passed away and the property sold.
Will post again when I get on the other computer.

more thinking on it. the advancement mechanism I don't think turned all the time but got nudged and turned a few degrees each revolution of the big v belt pulley.
Look possible?

It looks like all the linkage on the left hand side is there? Fiber disk with the slot to allow the fingers to push to increase speed and hand pull back the disk at end of extraction cycle. the bars that connect the top auto feed to the fiber disk shaft is there a spring loaded thing (half round piece of metal) to engage the advancement mechanism to the threads on the top shaft? and a trip when the fiber disk has reached max speed at the center of the plate drive.
Just going by memories but it was back in the late 80's early 90's and only extracted there one year. The bearings in the wax spinner were shot and was the last one extracting so spent more time fixing and cleaning than what it took to extract the 1,100lbs

I took pictures of the panels in the honey display we have at the fair and there is a photo that shows the extractor. the photo I have is of the hole board so it pixelates before it gets big enough to see much detail.I will be able to take a better picture and look thru the picture box for other photos when we go in to set up. wont be to the end of the month though.

Let me know

I will give novascotiabeefarmer a call this morning. He runs 2 big radials in his honey house and if I'm not mistaken one of them is a Maxant 50. If so I will go and take some pictures.

Perhaps a phone call to Maxant?  They might have copies of the owner's manual, pictures of what you are looking for or can get you in contact with a technician.  They also have a face book page https://www.facebook.com/maxantindustries where you might be able to reach out to another owner to inquire.  Good luck!

Yes yes yes, this is what we were thinking also. The threads on the advancement shaft are very course. There is a small chain sprocket on the end of the advancement shaft, we were thinking that a finger on the v belt pulley would turn it one tooth per revolution. Just not sure what is missing, has to be pretty simple.

I emailed Jake at Maxant and he said they had nothing on it, hard to believe not even a pic of the workings.

I was typing just that Bakers when you replied. Thanks

OK George, here are a few pics. Hopefully I've caught the image of what you're looking for. If not, let me know, and tell me exactly what you need a shot of.
The first 3 pics are of one extractor and the fiber wheel on it is all but done, "nsbf" has already ordered another (not cheap apparently @ $200). He said that most of the parts are still available. The 4th pic is of the extractor with the newer wheel.

wrong end of the shaft.
if you look at the pic I posted, on the right hand side where the motor is mounted, to the very left of the motor you will see a large diameter v belt pulley, it is mounted but only free wheels, to the very left and bottom of the v belt pulley is a small chain sprocket which is on the end of the speed advancement shaft.

What I circled in red on the right hand side is the area I am needing some insight on.
Like I said it can't be too complicated, it was made for beekeepers after all.

Sorry the pic I posted is not very clear, I did not take it.

Perry can you take a video of the extractor spinning and how the shafts turn in relation to each other and how each is powered. Then pictures of the belt and drive power transfer that happens.

If I knew how I might, but I'm afraid it's beyond my capabilities. ;D Pictures are gonna have to do. (I'll try video but I don't know how to post/download/upload/unload/wideload, etc.)

I believe my Maxant extractors are different then the one pictured by G3. On mine I advance the speed manually...there is no automatic advancement mechanism as pictured. The manual advance works very simply. If the honey is reasonably warm we are at full speed in 3 or 4 minutes.
