With what is happening with the price. I think that we may be in for a short crop this year.

Supply and demand. Price is up, meaning short on supply. Less honey in the market...

Guess i'm selling to cheap

i can get 46 oz. in a Golden Harvest qt. jar and sell it for $14.00? Apis is right about short supply of honey this year, at my house anyway $:-\$ I will be at least 1,000.00 lbs. down from last year and it's black honey. I will be at the Farmers Market at 3;00 pm, but it's been raining last night and this morning (1 1/4 in) with a cloudy over cast now, so there may not be many customers show up??? Jack

Depends on your area completely. If you are the only game around the sky is the limit. If you are one of many you fall in line to some degree.

I am getting $15 per quart, that seems to be just a tad above average for around here.
Have not been to any of the farmers markets to see what they are getting.

Sold out the first hour (30 qts.)

had two phone calls on answer machine when i got home saying, i hear you have some more dark honey. I brought home 6 little bears and 3 big bears, everyone wanted quarts? Even have club members calling wanting honey for there customers and there selves.I'm heading out in the morning to some out yards, but have a good idea what i'll find. :'( Jack

I sell quarts for 12 dollars and half pints for 4.50. people want the half pints. I know I can get more for my honey but I’m not the type to rob the customer. This year I’m having my best year with my honey. The goldenrod flow is on now.

Just delivered 400 lbs to the winery that bought 200 lbs in December. They came out with "Valley Nectar" mead in July, 42 cases, and it's already half gone in less than a month.
Harvested just over 2500 lbs so far this year and have 2 honey supers (wish I had more) on most hives with the goldenrod coming on.

46 oz. thats 2.875 lbs @ $6.75 a pound the quart should sell for @19.40

I'll be at $20 for a quart here. Dark honey this year for us too. With the cost of all my new equipment, I'm still in the red....Feel like I'm just passing the feeling of being robbed on to my customers Ray. ;-)

I agree the cost of bee equipment is very expensive. I will never get out of the red. Beekeeping is just a hobby for me. If I want to make some money with it. I will sell bees instead. No money in selling honey. Honey sells for 12 to 15 dollars a quart here.

my question is.... is this a reflection of price in the US or Canada?

I myself am not that greedy and at the end of the day would like to maintain my customer base. The local crop is very short here so no matter what I produce or realistically what price I place on the item it will sell. However business will likely continue next year and I do not plan to put a bad taste in my customer's mouth by thinking I can over charge them this year and then 'hypothetically' drop the price next year when (or if) we have a a bumper crop to expel the bad taste. I myself like to maintain a steady, predictable and reasonable price for my product.

any of my former commercial mentors (all now quite dead) would be amazed at the current price of honey.

i'm no Donald Trump, but i have tricked myself into thinking i've made money selling honey every year

. If i really set down and took a pencjl to it i would be depressed, it's just something i love to do and have people ask me questions about bees lkie i know everything about bees

Well your in a hole you will never dig out of. Like others have said, the money in bees is selling them, and i've never sold any of my girls. JMHO. Jack

Jack, don't beat yourself up too bad. Trump inherited his money and he has had his share of failures too. Casinos, marriages, airline and that hair and some of the ventures that have tanked. Your work has been done with your own two hands. You should be proud.

I gave up selling my honey a few years back---now I just distribute it to family and friends. No need to think of how much I'm "losing" on the deal.

My grandson is selling his honey for 25 NIS for 1/2 kg. If my math is correct and the exchange rate calculations are correct, it comes to something like $6.45 for 1.1 lbs. Rounding it out roughly, that's about $6 for a pound.
