Friday Night Lights
« on: October 11, 2015, 01:31:44 pm »

About an hour before game time at Hico, Texas, last Friday night.  This is an old rock stadium built with WPA Labor during the depression.  The crowd had not yet arrived and two officials were inspecting the field.  The picture just jumped out, and unfortunately, the only camera I had was the iPhone.  An hour later, two Class AA football teams were at play.  We lost the game, but it was a fun night.  That's what sports is supposed to be about.

It's not the camera that makes a great picture.  It's having a great picture that makes a great picture.  I just happened to look up and saw the sky and went from there.  Digital cameras make for more good pictures because you can take unlimited pictures and keep the best of the best.  This picture was not edited, period.

True but it is near impossible to get a great picture from a crappy camera. It was a lot harder to get decent photos from camera phone 5 years ago. The quality and resolution in the newer phones are greatly improved in recent years.

Oh Apis, you are dead on about the newer phones taking better pictures.

The advancements in digital cameras has come about in the last two decades.  In 1995, I was on a job in South Texas and came across a custom build wellhead flange.  I needed a companion flange and was having a hard time  describing it to my supplier.  The oil company project manager came down and took a picture of it, and we were able to email it to my supplier.  The digital camera was larger than the old Polaroid cameras and took a real fuzzy picture, but it was still better than no picture at all.  The impressive thing at the time was that WE TOOK A PICTURE AND EMAILED IT.  So that's how far cameras have come in just 20 years.

By comparison, can you imagine how small a cameras is that is embedded in a cell phone?

My youngest son says that pictures like this are painted by the Master Painter.  We need to be aware of these moments and capture them if possible.
