Apple Dump?
« on: October 25, 2015, 07:52:08 pm »
The Mennonites that done the logging for me, said the Mennonite store ( Dutches Market) about 25 miles from me is having what is called a apple dump with several different varieties of apples for $.28 a pound and you can mix them if you want. The wife wanted to go, well ended up buying 110 lbs. 3 different varieties, Jonathon,Roma, and Huge Honey crisp apples. We took our son and daughter all they wanted and so far i've had everything but apple dumplings that i can think of and there's still boxes of apples setting around. Those Honey crisp apples are my favoret eating apple and the sell around $2.00 a pound in town, they have a smoked cheddar and smoke swiss cheese that i loaded up on also that goes good on top of a open face apple pie :yes:The town of Mt. Vernon had there yearly apple butter days, my persimmon are loaded thanks to the bees, now after a couple of hard frost my wife will make persimmon btead, sorghum cake, and honey popcorn balls. I love the Fall and all the goodies that go with it. Jack
PS. i'm getting full of apples, guess what the Trick or Treater's are going to get. ;D

That's only 2 1/4 bushel. I could can those in 2 days, and make jelly from the peels and cores the third day. Getting lazy in you golden years, Jack?   :D   ;D

Some of the Honey Crisp apple are big as a Grapefruit, i can eat a whole one, my wife can only eat a half of one, but she stirs peanut butter and honey together to eat on hers. :t3816:

That is the way I like them also, peanut butter with honey mixed in with it or just the peanut butter.

Gosh, I wish I would have seen this post when it was written.  I would have made the trip down there, Jack.  I guess it pays to check into WorldWideBeekeeping daily!
