Doctors!!!!!!!
« on: October 30, 2015, 02:04:56 am »
Okay, I need to rant somewhere.  When I moved to Kingston I needed a new family MD.  Much to my dismay, my encounters with two of them was less than desireable.  The first one tried to kill me by writing a wrong dosage for Prednisone (not kidding).  Good thing I questioned the dosage with the pharmacist.  Onto another doctor.....this one argued with me saying I did not need to have a culture taken on a nasty infected, oozing finger.  Begrudgingly, she did the culture and turns out the doggone antibiotics she gave me would have been useless because it was a fungal infection, not bacterial. Strike 2!  I finally find a doc that you can talk with, is young (aha, someone I can grow old with).  Everything is right in the world  ;D.  Until he informs me he is leaving the practice  :'(.  Meanwhile, the family practice merges with behemoth medical group.  See where I am going here?  Call, can't get through on the phone and have to leave voicemails, they don't call back and when they do they tell you the new doc has nothing available and I should go to Urgent Care!  Frustrated, I decide it's time to find a doctor in another smaller practice.  I called today and asked if they were taking new patients.  I was informed that they would need some medical history on me, what my insurance coverage (which is awesome) was and that the doctor's in the practice would discuss if they wanted me!   WHAT!!!!  I have never head of such a thing!  What have they done to health care in this country?  Thanks for nothing Obama!

YEP!
Even the clinic/practice we have been with for the last 15 years now informs us we have to wait up to two months to get an appointment, if its an  emergency, go to the emergency room...  what is an emergency? ANYTHING that cant wait two months......
The day when you called your doc and were subsequently talking to him within 24 hours is long gone.

I don't know that any one system is better than another, I think they are all under strain. When we moved to NS, at the time it was all but impossible to get a family doctor, you had to hope that there was a vacancy open up. Walk in clinics are all the rage, Drs. no longer want to maintain an office with staff, etc. so they opt for clinics where they just show up, are paid by the number of patients they see, and go home.
It has gotten better as of late and we have had little to no problem securing a family Dr., but you have to make an appointment to see them, and it is at the walk in clinic all the same as few have their own practices.
I still remember when we moved to Lunenburg, the first time a new Dr. moved into the area he was swamped with requests to become a family Dr. You had to bring your "family" in, fill out an "application" form, and hope you made the cut.
Not wanting to defend Drs. per se, but it must be frustrating for them to continually see patients with health problems of their own making who end up refusing to do what it takes to maintain good health. I'm afraid I would end up slapping too many people if it were me. ;D  I can "almost" understand why they want to have some say as to whom they accept.

Perry, I can agree with not wanting to see folks who don't want to take of themselves.  Unfortunately, many of our health issues are genetic and nothing we do will correct them...... Thanks Mom LOL!

I don't know anything about Obamacare, but I do know that my local doctor had to join a large syndicated group in order to stay in business.  I can still visit old, local doctor any day of the week, but he now has to consult with his main office somewhere  in Illinois before performing major medical procedures.  Don't you wonder what the doctor in Illinois thinks of his Central Texas patients.  I think locally owned and operated clinics are a thing of the past.  Even our local hospital has joined a national group.

Also, tell me you don't think that someone in Washington DC can't pull up your medical records?  Hey, they're killing babies in the womb so what's a few old, non productive people.  Coming soon to your area, I fear.

With Obamacare it has has created a hole new list of patients. That would not have been so eager to see a doctor if they were paying out of pocket. And for doctors a whole other billing nightmare. Gone is treat the patient collect money for services.
If it is anything like up here get hurt in an car accident and auto insurance company is charged, on the job workers compensation pays the bill. In BC auto, worker, and health insurance as well as hospitals are government do it is a way for them to off set some of the health costs.

The way all governments work health care is in the end, a make works program for lots of low level government workers.  When everyone works for the government, there will only be the government.  It's a beautiful thing for socialist.  It's a terrible thing if one wants more than the government provides.

I am fortunate that the genetics in both my birth parents are strong.
My birth father smoked like a chimney and drank like a fish (whiskey, at least a quart a day right up till near the end) and lived to be 83. My birth mother is 94 and going strong. She needs a walker but is sharp as a tack.
(I am knocking on wood as I type this, cause luck factors in as well I'm sure).

Its getting worse every year. Medicare is looking for a 50 percent increase next year.  When will the American people wake up and do something about it. First thing we must do, get rid of the lawyers because we have too many lawsuits. Next get rid of the special interest that’s driving up our healthcare cost. Next get the government out of the healthcare industry so the medical people can run the system the right way. We don’t need 3 different healthcare systems today Medicare, Medicaid and Obama care. Its bankrupting the country. We need one healthcare plan only with people working and paying into it. Our seniors can be put into the system with the young people paying for it. I did it all my life for the older people when I was working. Today how many young people have a job. Our system is broke because our society has moved to far to the left. People get paid today for sitting home doing nothing along with free healthcare while the dieing middle class with a good job is paying for it. Good help us if we put the democrats in for four more years. What makes me laugh. We can spend billions on crap we don’t need but we cant come up with a better way to fix our broken healthcare system. Our country has no common sense. To much computer and TV today.

need to follow the Maine Governers footsteps..  you get 5 years worth of unemployment/aid  once you have used all of it...  1 year here, a month there, another two weeks over here etc...  when its gone, its GONE!

We need to allow medicare to negotiate pharmaceutical prices down, collective bargaining works but the pharmaceutical companies bought congress and got that blocked from Medicare and from the Affordable Care act.

Meantime I am sticking with the garden. I have one prescription. It comes from pigs. (Armour)

My thyroid medicine is called Armour.  It comes from pigs and is not expensive, so Blue cross won't cover it anymore, they want me to ask my doctor for a different medication.  I called costco, when I am paying just cash with costco prescription card my price goes up $4, without the card, $7.

It is all a racket, been a racket for a very long time.

"Happening a long time before Obama."

"What have they done to health care in this country?  Thanks for nothing Obama!"

right on greg............and 'they' isn't all obama............
it is good to rant and rave and express frustration and feel free to do so here, although in my opinion it is not because of one president or one party in office, and history as greg pointed out, is where truth lies.

we like to bash a certain party or a certain president in office, when in fact a myriad of other circumstances and history come into play. i guess i am the strongest person on the admin/mod team to express my dislike of political discussions or party bashing here....... i don't like to discuss politics or bash specific presidents or parties on this forum because we tick members off with heated discussions and lose some members by comments made. and comments like this:

"God help us if we put the democrats in for four more years."

well ray, maybe some folks here are democrats and you just stepped on their toes, offended them and ticked them off...........

let's think about what we say and post and be considerate;  we are not all of one party, one belief.
also, this forum was really built on keeping it 'friendly' and not all the garbage, baggage and snarkiness of other forums, and the slinging bs.

the medical 'system' is another myriad of mysteries, it starts with the power given to insurance companies and insurance coverage.........it's the not the docs fault, the e/r's fault or the clinics fault, maybe sometimes it is.

i have a good insurance company, a good doc, a good clinic and good care providers, i don't experience the frustration of  what some do. i am in good health.....i have one or two genetic/hereditary health issues i guess but nothing compared to the 45 grand total hip replacement and another coming up....... :D :D :D
guess all those insurance premiums i been paying have payed for it!........... :D

if you are not happy with your insurance company, your doctor, your clinic, find and get another that care about their customer service and care.
i did.

I have a final visit with my new doctor's office next Friday. I have never had more unnecessary prescriptions pushed at me, I will have  final sonogram on my thyroid through this insurance plan, I did not let them rush me into surgery over the node, the conservative recommendation by the sonogram doctor was re-check in 6 months. I will do this.

Before anyone goes off on the risk of thyroid cancer etc - please realize that it is far more dangerous to have an unnecessary biopsy than to avoid one. Same doctor rushed a friend of mine into surgery for kidney stones, bruised his kidney severely and darn near killed him. My uncle was killed by MRSA contracted in a hospital. A friend of mine had negative biospies and now has MRSA inside and outside of his body, on his skin. He is wearing an IV and injecting antibiotics in it for the next 2 weeks, but that prostate biopsy was negative for cancer,  thank goodness. And my cousin's dad went in for a knee replacement and died of a hospital borne infection.

This clinic said ACA - wow, new patients make $ fast, is not providing quality medical care, and is the ONLY clinic in Fort Worth that was accepting the BCBS HMO I selected. And if my old doctor I paid cash at will take me back (I have to provide him all of my medical records that occurred in the interim - I believe he is screening for pain pill addicts etc) then I will choose an insurance plan he and my skin cancer doc accept.

Practicing good medicine takes time and care, not just an office staff and a computer
