My North Carolina girls aren't accustomed to single-digit weather.  With a forecast of 8 degrees and a wind-chill below zero tonight, I guess I'll find out just how healthy they are . . .

I'm thinking the same thing...We'll get down to 21° tonight with a wind chill of 12°.  I realize that's nothing for most of the country, but for South Louisiana, that's S E R I O U S!!!

Typically, when we do reach freezing, it's usually for an hour or two overnight, but we're going to have about an 18 hour stretch where we don't get above freezing. 

I hope my bees are handling it better than I am!  I hate it!

I feel your pain my beek friends! Here in upper northern california we had 9 below zero, that was the worst night, then a sustained below zero for a week after. Bees did just fine, but I froze my ___ off!

This is the way we insulated our hive, 3/4 inch ridged board, and there is also a piece of for the lid I just took it off for a minute.

It was 10 degrees F here in Western Central, Texas.  That's very cold for us.  It's what we call "cold as a _ _ _ _ _ 's heart.

I would have been worried about my bees with the sub zero temps we have had the last three days but those Canadian bees seem to make it through.  And, you Maple Leaves have sub temps for long periods of time.

It was forecast to be in the 40's here today, but it never got above freezing.  The local weather gal said it was our 33rd day of freezing weather this year.  Last year we only had 43 days of freezing weather.  We are into an unusually cold winter.  'the good news is that we have a fair amount of moisture in the ground.  That may provide my bees early wild flowers.  We have an abundance of wild flowers when there is normal moisture in the ground.  We have been into a three year drought.

cold down into the upper teens and mid 20s the past couple of day.  should be 50 + tomorrow so I will begin feeding again.  looks like a warming trend at least thru the week end.

My wife and I talked about the cold and the Bees at your house,  -45 wind chill is cold,  I hope they make it.  I was out in it for 2 hours and I had to keep getting in car that was running.

I swear, I don't know how you guys survive that much cold.  I have on rare occasions worked in sub-zero weather, but it was extremely difficult on this old Texan.  Good luck with your bees.  Oh, and do you keep Russian bees?

I was talk to blueblood,  I don't know what kind of bees he has.  working in the cold is not bad, just dress right,  It will make you sleep good at night.

Between being flat on my back with a stomach virus and rainy weather, today was my first chance to check on my girls since the single-digit weather.  We came through it 10 hives for 10!  Great weather today and the bee yard was quite active.
