Who lives in South Carolina?
« on: February 15, 2016, 08:11:22 pm »
The itch has set in for Ken and I.  Even though this has been a fairly mild winter (until this last week), we are kicking around moving south and have South Carolina in our sights.  If you reside in SC, can you give us any tips, hints, warnings, suggestions, etc.  I am an avid gardener and Ken loves his golf and I want to continue beekeeping.

Actually we are looking in an area just over the NC border, Little River.

Tell your hubby to google Pinehurst, NC. He will forget all about SC. It's also next door to CBT.

""The resort now has nine golf courses, three hotels, a spa, and extensive sports and leisure facilities.""

We are plant zone 7/8, so can grow almost anything.

I'm in zone 5. I grow 3 months outside and 9 months inside.  I get 3 months of nice weather here and 9 months of winter. If I had a chance to go and live. I would move up to northern Minnesota close to the Canadian border for its fine fishing and get a Canadian fishing license to fish their lakes too. That’s gods country for me.

That may be too much of a wonderful change at one time. Most vacation there first before they take the plunge.

Believe it or not, it can get bloody hot and humid here in the Hudson Valley.  Not unusually to run in upper 80's and 90% humidity.  The Hudson River is a wonderful source for all that humidity.  We do have spurts of upper 90's and even break 100 now and then.  I just want to be able to go out at night in the dead of winter and not sit in the car shivering waiting for it to warm up and have every joint in my body ache.

Than you need to move to Alabama for we have around my area around a month of cold weather with maybe a week of 32 or below. there are some great golf courses near by, I don't play golf but they look good. You can usually grow two crops of most any thing around here. The only thing rent is not cheap with
the Auburn University just 20 miles and Fort Benning army post around the same distant from here. Would be glad to have you as a neighbor. Also we have some great fishing here too.

Les,
If your talking about Cherry Grove,S.C. just north of Myrtle Beach, do some research because they have 2 big biker rally's there every year and they take over all small towns within 75 miles, not sure how big they are now,but they used to be not that appropriate for local residents for years, just thought I'd let you know.

I have a friend that lives in Little River, SC and is trying to convince us to come down.  Since we do not know the area, we decided to see just how hot it gets there in the summer.  We booked a weeks vacation in North Myrtle Beach in July.  Now Alabama I never even thought of.....thanks for the tip kebee.  We are not rushing anything, taking our time to search.
We have one small event to take care of first, after 10 years together Ken and I have decided to become Mr. & Mrs.

Congratulation on making it official, even though it has been common law for a while, the vacation can be the honey moon than.

Congratulations!
I can see it now, a late spring wedding In your back yard wearing your finest white suits complete with veil (bee suit that is) standing in front of the beehives. With 60,000 little guests in attendance and a few close friends and family.as well.
Congratulations again! We want pictures of the happy say.

Thanks APIs, now that would bee quite a sight in our bee suits.  We tossed around the idea of having it in our backyard but two things squashed that idea.  The train that is not too far away and unfortunately we have a population of young ones that just love their subwoofers.  I can see it now..... just as one of us goes to say "I do" the train whistle blows or boom, boom from the subwoofers.  Don't know if you remember a character called "Gerald McBoing Boing", every time he opened his mouth different sounds came out. That is my vision of what would happen LOL.

Congratulations :eusa_dance: Les.  That sounds like  the beginning of a new exciting adventure.  I would travel around a lot and spend some time in different areas. I'd get hitched first though.  That would be enough stress at one time for me :) let alone moving.

If my good friend and neighbor had her way, we would just snowbird it somewhere.  She told me that she would be the one wrapped around my ankles as I tried to get in the car to leave LOL.  As I think about planning a wedding, I am starting to like the idea of a weekend trip to NYC and a visit to a JP.  Of course, then we would have to deal with angry family members that felt they were denied, geez Louise!
