Sorry to hear about your pup Scott. They are really no different than family other than maybe an extra pair of legs. The folks up here that "foster" are special people, if GPAC wasn't able to rely on "foster" parents they would only be able to bring up and save half the dogs they do.
We started as a "foster with intent (to fail)", that is, if all went well between our pooch and the new one, she would be staying, and it certainly looks to be the case. An accident or 2 has been about the only blip so far.

I absolutely agree with what you are doing, and I also agree with your feelings regarding ourselves. Here in Canada we are just starting to go through the process of doctor assisted "suicide". I don't want this to get political or upset folks, I understand the arguments on both sides, but I have also seen some pretty sad and ugly endings when it really wasn't necessary.

So sorry to hear the news Scott!  I know words can't heal the loss, but know I'm thinking of you all.

Shes gone, vet came this morning. Went VERY peacefully, but it was still quite hurtful, and will be for a while...
Perry.. I have often wondered, how much of the law preventing aid in dying is to glean as much money as possible?  At 20 to 50K a DAY its not an insubstantial sum...  but, enough of that...

Got my fingers crossed for you, that all goes well, and that Copper and Penny hit it off fantastically!

Sorry for you having to go through all this Lazy. It is a sad day when we must say our final good by to one of the family.

FOR WHEN THEY LEAVE US

And God asked the canine spirit
“Are you ready to come home?”

“Oh, yes, quite so”, replied the precious soul.
"And as a dog, you know I am most able to decide anything for myself.”

“Are you coming then?” asked God
 “Soon”, replied the whiskered angel.
 “But I must come slowly
 My human friends are troubled
For you see, they need me, quite certainly.”

“But don’t they understand?” asked God –
 “That you’ll never leave them?”
“That your souls are intertwined, for all eternity,
That nothing is created or destroyed,
It just is . . . forever and ever and ever?”

“Eventually they will understand” replied the dog
“For I will 'whisper' in their hearts – that I am always with them.
I just am . . . forever and ever and ever!

Just remember the Rainbow Bridge..................

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
