Feeding Honey Back

I have two 5 gal. buckets of honey that i'm going to feed back to the bees that has a bad taste (made from bitter weed). I've never fed extracted honey back to them, any advice on how to give it back? Jack

Add about 10% water and mix it up well. Bees for whatever reason take real honey in a feeder better that way.

If it was warmer I would use a frame feeder.This time I would use a lid feeder,that you don't have to open up the nest.

jack, that's what i have done, what perry said, mix in some water, and i have fed back over the hives in a pail.

When I was studying about feeding bees back their own honey, which should be their very own honey to avoid transferred disease... one beek said that he gets his stashed pulled wax frames and pours the honey over the empty cells, leaves it for a few hours and then puts it back into the hive. The way the cells are designed from the bees, the caps are tilted back just a bit so the honey stays in place.

Thanks to you all, you would think me having bees for all most 50 yrs. that i would know how to feed extracted honey back? I have fed hundreds of frames with honey in them to weak hives. I agree it would be better to give the honey back to the hive it came from,but as long as it came from a strong healthy hive i don't worry about it. I've never had a problem yet. Jack

Jack, there isn't a day goes by where I don't come across something I have to ask that I aught to know the answer to.

My mentor feeds back crystallized honey by just spreading it out on the inner cover.  Kind of like a candy board.  The bees come up and work on it in warmer spells.

(well funny part about him putting fondant on hives that he couldn't  remember doing....doh, big brain fart! lol)

i haven't kept bees as long as you jack, wish i had your knowledge/experience skipping the age and knee part.... :D
but really in the big picture, i always say, to what perry said, haven't kept bees long enough ..... :D
