Feral Bees
« on: January 13, 2014, 12:31:08 pm »
Early last summer I had these 'black butt' bees visit my hive. I have Europeans. There were a lot of them each day. They were not aggressive. My bees didn't seem too worried about them coming into the hive. I was the one freaking out, and put a robbing screen on. Problem solved.

Most often I would come out to the hive in the morning and see several dead ones on the top of the hive and on the porch. It appeared to me that several would fly to my hive, land and die. They are still in the area because I took the robbing screen off in late summer and they came back.

I think I am safe...  Mom said her and my father were parked in Grandpas pasture, and everything happened when a cow stuck its head in the window and mooed loudly....    Pretty memorable set of circumstances so she said there was no NEED to do a DNA test....
