I've got question fer ya regarding blueberries in Maine. We had an absolutely crappy year here (if you were a blueberry grower). 30 cents a pound!
Break even costs (production) is 50 cents a pound. There were growers (under 100 acres) who had their crops harvested and trucked to the packers and actually
owed thousands of dollars when it was all over (The main harvester is actually the main packer who will only harvest if you sell to them). Calls are already being fielded by some keeps from growers advising their bees won't be needed or numbers of hives will be drastically reduced for 2017, with some taking their fields out of production until prices rise. Looks like a perfect storm up here. Talk of pollination prices dropping from $150 to $100 for those that can find contracts.
The freezers are full with 2 good years. Funny thing, the berries are no cheaper in the grocery stores though.
