First sting of the year
« on: February 11, 2017, 09:56:23 pm »
70 degrees today and I decide to take a look inside the hives.  Capped brood and LOTS of drone cells.  Of the 20 drones I uncapped, 4 were purple eyed.

Everything was going GREAT until.... stray dog showed up, spooked the chickens and then my girls went crazy.  First sting of the year and yup!  Right above the eye.

Dang Mark I don't remember you looking like that this morning, must have happened this afternoon. Looks like you went a few rounds in the ring ;D

That's just Mark doing an imitation of a drone at the purple eyed stage!

Just got a message from Chef Unknown, seems he has this slice of pie (made with blueberries specially gathered from the fields of Maine) for you in honour of your fortitude in posting that fantastic pic. Well done sir!

I spent the morning at Beez Needz with the crew and when I went home to work my hives, that's when it happened.  The swelling only lasts a day for me.  Yea, I smiled all day!

Went to church and got "what happened to you?" Told them about the chickens getting spooked and they spooked my bees, or ... my wife got upset with me.  I let them choose the story.  It was split 50/50!
