yesterday's inspections-thoughts?
« on: March 29, 2017, 02:33:43 pm »
Hi guys,

Got into my three hives yesterday. Hive 3 had twice as many bees as the other two. Also loads of surplus nectar and pollen. Very nice broodnest. Hives 1 and two had much smaller broodnest with reasonable amount of pollen in the pollen band around the broodnest but the honey band and surplus combs were empty.

My diagnosis was that these hives didn't have enough forager force to keep the nurse bees supplied. I put sugar syrup feeders on all for them as I didn't want to start robbing and I figured if hive 3 didn't need it they would just not use it.

Did I do Okay?

Just keep an eye on hive 3's consumption and make sure they aren't clogging up the brood nest with syrup.

Thanks Robo,

They have an undrawn super over them so hopefully they will use it there.

Sounds like you're in good shape.  That tells me again that drawn comb is the greatest asset in the bee yard.

could you rob from 1 to help 2&3 if you had drawn comb to replace in hive 1 ? ?
