Snow? In Florida???
« on: January 28, 2014, 08:56:42 pm »
Sounds like there's a chance of snow and freezing rain tomorrow. I haven't seen that since 1988. We don't get this often and the wife is giddy. She is absolutely beside herself, hoping for enough snow to play in. Strange girl.

LOL rcannon.
Mine gets excited when summer storms roll in. She likes to sit in the garage and watch the lightning and listen to the thunder...
We were doing that two summers ago.. I was watching the clouds, and realized it was a super cell..   The colors changed slowly to a greenish purple. I stood up, and stepped out of the garage to look around.    I said.. this isnt good, this is torando weather.
SHe laughed..   "Your so full of cr@p You cant tell when a........"
The town siren went off in the distance before she could finish her sentence..  she went directly to panic mode.  We spent the next three days cleaning up debris one town over and helping friends who live there get the mess cleaned up.  Fixing roofs and picking up branches and items that belonged to people a quarter mile away.  She is a bit more reserved in her excitement now, but no less critical of what I say.   ;D

you folks in the south are getting some unprecedented weather as well!  we were just in captiva.  we left here at 20 below zero, and it was in the fifties when we arrived at the fort meyers airport.  EVERYONE was wearing heavy jackets, or fleece and long pants.  we had an hour to about a 2 hour drive from fort meyers to the southern tip of captiva.  the driver of the private bus we were on was wearing a fleece jacket, and had the heat turned on and the  the fan on high!   :D one of the guys finally asked him to turn it off, and he asked us "aren't you folks cold?"  :D

most of the resort staff and native floridians were all dressed warm and we were running aroung in t shirts and shorts.  it was too funny.

yesterday, i stopped to gas up, and as is not uncommon here, mind you it was about 25 degrees below zero.  there was a guy dressed in a heavy parka, with the hood over his head, workboots on, and WEARING SHORTS.... :D

I notice from the radar that panhandle of Florida over to Tallahassee got some snow flakes, we got 1.5 inches here yesterday late and last night, closed everything around just about and all the roads. My wife went to work and drove home this morning with the  snow roads, got down to 18 this morning with the sun out at 25.5degrees now @ 11:00 am and some bad wind it seems. Notice the bees are smart, inside and not moving.

You'd be amazed at the issues a little snow causes here. We aren't prepared for it and have no idea how to drive in it.
Interstate 10 is closed for 200 miles, from Tallahassee west toward Pensacola. All the overpasses were iced over. All the traffic was diverted to Hwy 90, which is a two lane road. I bet that's a mess.
It looks like we are going to miss the snow, but may get a little freezing rain and sleet tonight. The wife is depressed. I suggested that she cook a big supper to cheer her up. She stared at me a bit and then walked off mumbling something under her breath. Not sure I want to know what she said.
On a brighter note, it's supposed to be back in the 70s this weekend, maybe ill get to check in on the bees.

funny comment rc (about the wife, LOL), up here we drive 65 mph or more through 2 ft of snow and ice and think nothing of it.....but much different than you....70's this weekend you say?  we might be in upper digits, like say 7 degrees fahrenheit?  we have snow coming in tonight, about 6" or more.
