Using the wand vap. How common is it to ignite burr comb ?

I don't know, but I did notice the bottoms of my frames looked charred when I replaced them earlier this year.

( dribbling,  trickle)  method.  Was thinking of buying a varrox this yr. now I'm 2nd guessing.

I saw the charred bottom of a few frames the first time we used it, not since.  I have seen a few scorched spots on the bottom boards, not often though.  I have had no fires from burr comb.  Ted

I may have left it in too long once, causing things to get charred. I use Freeman Bottom boards and had to replace the screen on the one hive. The other hive didn't look bad.

Me too, have seen some scorch marks in the beginning. But I'm sure to remove the vap in 2 - 2/12 minutes. Have never seen smoke or smelled smoke. Been using vap every years regularly for 5 years now.

I agree with Jen.  When you get your vaporizer, do a test run outside the hive to see how long it takes to burn off a given amount of OA (this will vary from battery to battery and as the charge dissipates during use).  That way you know how long to have the electricity turned on.  I leave the unit in for a minute or so after stopping the electricity just in case the battery is losing some of its energy as I go through the hives.  Have seen charring of wood but never a fire.  HTH Mikey

What respiratory is recommend to use ?

The first couple of times I used those white allergy nose/mouth cups. But now I simply install the wand, hook up the battery and walk away for 2 mins, go change a load of laundry, move a sprinkler, play with the dog...

The acid is dangerous, and it will damage your lungs. You need an acid gas respirator for safety:

   You cant breathe enough of it to be dangerous. One whiff and your headed for Montana.. unless you live in Montana, then your headed for Texas...    In hundreds and hundreds of applications it only happened to me once, and it happened because I was in a rush and not paying attention... It won't happen again...
   It is all about common sense. If you have none, then please dont even use the commercial stuff, because it is even more dangerous that OAV.   You eat Oxalic Acid every day, your body is capable of coping with it in trace amounts. Don't be dumb and you shouldn't ever have a problem.


  Based upon the presented data, a commercial apiarist could use oxalic acid treatments during the whole year, 40 hours a week without damaging his health.

Compared to Oav with a wand.  I assume you're saying. Liquid method is more harmful.?

What is the commercial type oav compared to what I can but from brushy mountain. ?

Liquid method shortens the life of the bee. The bees actually ingest the liquid when they clean it off of themselves. In a summer bee... a single application is probably not appriciable, but shortening the life of a winter be can be a very bad thing...
