Live bees
« on: February 13, 2014, 07:00:35 pm »
It was nearly 50 deg when I got home from work today so I went to look at the six hives here at the house. I was a little surprised to see them all still alive. A couple that I started late are lighter than I like but I'll get some feed on them this weekend.
My biggest surprise was a hive that I started the first week of sept I think. It was an extra queen cell that I didn't need but thought I'd give her a chance. Robbed honey and brood from other hives to fill up a single deep and fed heavy until it got too cold. Which wasn't too long as I recall.
I popped the top for a second and the cluster was bigger than I expected. Probably covering 3 or 4 frames. They were also heavier than my other single deeps.

I'm very aware that it ain't spring yet!  Woody

It might not be spring yet, but you got them this far.  :goodjob:

We are over the hump and going down the other side, so hang in there. It's coming.

Yeah, a couple weeks ago with the temp around zero I thought about posting a couple nucs on Craigslist. Decided I'd better wait in case I needed to be a buyer instead of a seller.
